Worrying start up noise.. Sometimes

Every now and then when I turn on my pc I get a weird whirring/whining noise coming from what I guess is one of my HDDs. I have 2 samsung f3 1tbs. Is this a sign of them dying or is this common on start up sometimes? I bought these drives in order to free up space and also to be able to keep all my important files and stuff for work.. Have I got them screwed into the case to tight or something? Anyone else come across this sort of thing?

I used to get a little whirring sound from my Samsung F4 when I first turned the computer on. Im not using the drive now but it's still going strong.

All my samsungs have an initial click-whirr sound as they first spin-up (very noticeable in my server, as five of them start-up at once).

Never had a problem with them, only start to worry when they start making crunching sounds!

its likley to get worse over a period of time... if I were putting a machine together for a customer I would bin it... if it were in a working machine I tell the person to keep a regualr backup of their system

Ok, thats fair enough. I had a Seagate before and couldn't remember hearing such a noise in the past but if it seems like a common thing among Samsungs then thats a relief!

interesting. I've had the drive for around 2 weeks. Do you think I should RMA it?

Hogwash. I have a few of those very drives in a coupla rigs and they all make that sound with no issue. Maybe i should bin them all?

I'm not sure if im actually experiencing the same click whirr as everyone else here after another few days of listening.

As soon as I turn on the pc it goes like this: whiiiiIIIRRR..........*click* whooooooooooossshhhhhh

The click and whoosh noises I think are normal and not worried about as it seems to be common, but within like a second of turning on I get this distinctly loud whiiirrrr that lasts around a second. Its not high pitched or low pitched, somewhere in the middle.

EDIT - Hmmm right I've just found a youtube video here which shows EXACTLY what I mean. If you watch this and listen to the 'whhIIRRR' between 23 to 24 seconds. It does the noise I'm worried about, closely followed by the normal whooshing and clicking noises which I'm not worried about. Same again to a lesser extent at 1.34, but mine is more like the first instance on the video, you can clearly here what I'm worried about. Slightly relieved that other drives do creat the same noise actually.
