I just installed my 2nd 5850 (an Asus) and my performance has gone down considerably. Here's some results:

Test: Stalker: Clear Sky savegame at the Clear Sky camp, standing still

Before: 1x Sapphire flashed to Asus BIOS @ 1000/1200

FRAPS

Code:
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
  2429, 60953, 36, 41, 39.850

After: Both 5850s running @ stock

FRAPS

Code:
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
  2233, 81202, 24, 29, 27.499

Before doing any tests I made sure to set the CPU back @ stock (3GHz) to avoid having to mess with the 5-series overclock-killing gremlins. So both sets of results are with the same CPU. I also tested Furmark, I get way less FPS in the multi-GPU test than I did with my single OC'd 5850. :(

Rig in sig, apart from CPU as I said above. What's wrong??

Crossfire definately enabled? Bridge fitted? Catalyst AI on? Other games showing gains?

That's all I've got for now I'm afraid.

Xfire is enabled according to CCC and GPU-Z. Cat AI is set to Advanced. Haven't tested others yet...

Only thing I'm not sure about is the bridge. I didn't know which way round it went or which set of connectors to match up... does it matter?

Also, do you have one or two bridges fitted? I know only one is supposed to be required but HardOCP had some problems at high resolutions and AMD asked them to try using 2 bridges which seemed to solve the problem.

I've got only 1 fitted atm but I have loads lying around, lol. :) Will give that a go if re-clocking the CPU and other benchies don't pan out. Thanks.

Tried Crysis Warhead benchmark just now, single card was better by a few fps in min and avg but xfire won in max.

Gonna overclock, will report back.

edit: back @ 4GHz and no difference :(

I don't know what to say. Someone is bound to pop along and make some useful suggestions. I am out ideas now I'm afraid.

While waiting for more help try running fraps with different games to see if the problem is consitent.

Even if you were massively CPU limited (and your not) you'd only lose a few % off the single card performance worst case - not almost 30% - something else is wrong.

have you tried putting the catalyst ai to standard?

reinstalling drivers?

make sure both cards are in the pci-e slots correctly, i know it's not something people usually think could go wrong but it happens trust me ;)

i had a lot of trouble with my 5970 then it seemed to fix itself, for example was getting 40fps avg in the first mission of mw2 then a day of tinkering later managed to get it to 150 fps avg :D

don't give up hope it will work.....eventually

Tried going back to 10.2 from 10.3, no luck. Haven't tried CatAI on standard, will do that now.

I did have a lot of trouble getting the bottom card in to the slot, it's slightly further in at one end than the other. This happens to me a lot, bloody things just don't want to sit straight. Hasn't been a problem before though...

Well, finally something works like it should: BC2 results

single:

Code:
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
   222, 7270, 25, 36, 30.536

xfire:
Code:
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
   364, 7437, 44, 55, 48.944

Mystery is far from solved though, but bed for now.
