had similar problem last week, my 7950 bit the dust one evening (suddenly started artifacting just browsing the web, then /quit)
luckly i had a planned visit to my mums the next day so jumped on her PC and ordered a rx 580 which arrived the following day,

i couldnt face using my phone to browse/buy as im all thumbs :/

Learn from the mistake. In commercial environments you have a concept called "high availability" and this is what you should be following. What does this mean? You should have TWO gaming PCs and only ever make changes to one at once! Then if something goes wrong or fails you still have one available!

Upgrade went bad.

To minimise this risk I restrict upgrades to only GPU, RAM and disks. New CPU means a new built with maybe a few parts like disks and RAM reused. This way I always have the old PC as back up
