Me and the lads have been booked up to go to Tenerife for a week for ages.

Friday the 13th of bloody July we fly, why am I sitting here posting this your probably thinking?

Because until this morning I was very excited about going away with 8 of my closest drinking buddies and to meet 2 of my very close friends out there.

Packed everything last night as any respectable male would, went out last night for a sesh and then stroll in this morning for the 3 s's and then off to the airport WRONG.......

I asked my father last week, 'Dad you got my passport?' 'Yes son it's in the safe' I trust my Daddy so I thought nothing off it,.

I ask my father to leave my passport on my computer table for the morning so I can pick it up on my way out.

I am greeted this morning by my mother telling me that I have no passport!
She then proceeds to tell me that my passport is at the Saudi Arabian Embassy getting processed for a Visa application as I'm going over there at the end of this month.

Awww **** so I've spent about 3 hours this morning making phone calls trying to trace this bloody passport to find that the application has not been started yet, I find out that I can have the passport sent via courier and I'll receive it either today, or tomorrow at a great cost!

Which would have been fine, however to get another flight it would have cost me another nearly £400!

And then if I made any mistakes on my Visa application due to the short amount of time available I'd not be able to fly to Saudi.

In the end I've had to bite the bullet, I've missed my flight because I can't get on without a passport.

I've not got my passport back I've left it for the application to get processed, and I'm going to claim my money back for the missed holiday on my travel insurance.

And I got charged to change nearly $1k worth of euros back to pounds :(

So now I'm left here with a suitcase full of summery clothes, a week of no drinking buddies and nothing to do!

Feel my disappointment please!!

On a side note I have decided to do 20 miles a day on my mountain bike in order to reach peak fitness again.

Ouch, sorry to hear. I would seriously hate to to be in your position. I get really excited to go on holidays and to be told you can't go... not nice :(

Sad to here that your holiday is ruined - but surely you check on your passport a little earlier than the day before?

If I go on holiday I check it's all in order a week or so before.

Plus if you parents knew you were going on holiday - surely they would have asked you for your passport so you knew it wasn't in the country???

Exactly. And that's why the insurance company won't pay a penny.

It wasn't out of the country, it was at the embassy.

That sucks man. Very unlucky. Go do something you enjoy doing, keep your mind off until your friends come back.

Thats poor, nobody in your family knew you was going away and that your passport was at an embassy, talk about school boy error.

I asked my father last week, and he made a mistake,.

A few of our passports have come back from Visa application, I can only assume he thought one of them was mine.

I've already sorted the insurance out, basically all I have to do is not turn up (Not difficult) and then travel agents send me an invoice which I forward on to the insurance company.

Ah my mistake - for some reason I thought that it was in that country! No idea why.

Still, sorry to rain on the OPs parade, I am gutted for you - plus my parents would be getting a "why the hell did you not tell me my passport was being sent away" rant.

European Union citizens can travel to Tenerife with national ID cards alone. If your country does not issue identity cards, then a valid Passport is required. UK visitor passports are not acceptable. All non-EU nationals require a full valid Passport.

Aren't we lucky our reactionary media are saving us from evil id cards.

**** Poor planning Dude but still, i feel your pain.
Waste the grand you just changed back that'll ease it.

Solution to stop this happening in future: get your own place and look after your own passport yourself?

Got my own place, I leave all my valuable docs in my dads safe.

No we're not lucky because they *aren't* saving us from them. If they were saving us from them then we would be lucky.

Buy your own safe then - your documents after all.

My Dad's got a 1 tonne book safe.

I have no need for a 1 tonne book safe, and I'd imagine they're rather expensive.

So for the sake of storing a passport I think I'd rather let my Dad do that for me, as opposed to buying a 1 tonne book safe.
