Worst forum i've ever seen!!

I only go to two forums, this one and the one at Sonic Cathedral. OCUK is fine for daily banter and I like the way that it's kept more or less clean. I do find the mods rather annoying though. I know they're just trying to do a job which is bloody hard in a forum as active as this one, and it must just drive them mad sometimes. However, some things are unnecessarily moderated to death. Still, OCUK is a useful place to come for advice on any matter, computer-related or not.

I went back to 4chan yesterday - it's not as bad as it was. I didn't see any CP though the rest of it's as it's always been.

The OLD Bloodrayne forum was hilarious. The Fan Fiction and Fan Artwork sections were dreadful.

Of course, bad forums shouldn't be mentioned in their wholeness without addressing Duncan Cumming. Duncan Cumming is a 'street bombing' forum. 'Street bombing', unless you're not down with the vernacular, is a beetnik expression for doing graffiti. Mainly on trains, it seems.

Check out some of this greatness, especially the 'beef' board:

Lol, I can imagine the faces of people reading this thread like..

Exactly, at least I try to explain the forums I mentioned. Sometimes I think people on here think of themselves in some kind of elite group by posting random stuff that only 3% of people on here understand.

"Yeah AFTD is all about the /b/ it used to be all about the /fd/ and then the new members came. At least its moved on from being about the /snoop d o to the double g/ though /o/ |o| \o\ <o> >o< "

I gotta side with snowdog and a couple of others here. OCUK is average in my opinion.
Sure i've asked plenty of questions and had good answers for which i'm grateful. I've also had strange answers which have obviously come from kiddies who know no better and ruin the thread.
BUT, its the only forum i'm a member of where you really do not know if what you say may get you banned or suspended. I was suspended in my 1st week without any warning for not totally asterisking out a sweary.....i mean, come on, who reads ALL the rules anyway. I try and respect the rules, but i think OCUK are a little too nazi with theirs. I know its my choice to be here, and for that i adhere to the rules, but having modded and admined on other forums, this is by far the most stringent i've been on.
As for tech advice, i use OCUK, but i mainly use a different site where everyone is really friendly and willing to help. I don't think its attached to a seller, but i daren't post who it is in case i get cyberspanked!

I think gaming forums suck because its populated by fanboi's and kiddies who just flame everyone with l33t and pwn everyone, period!

There are some swear words which seem acceptable to use here, such as 'bloody', 'bugger' and 'sod'. Those never seems to be removed/deleted. Unless someone can correct me.

For me it's horses for courses when it comes to forums. I currently frequent; OcUK, TalkPhotography, Allotments4All & Military Watch Resourse. Plus a couple of others that I dip in & out of.

OcUK broke my forum cherry and I've found it very useful for tech advice and non-tech (photography, cars, DIY, etc), it can be quite amusing too. I tend to stay away from the discussions as many posters seem to see 'discussion' as 'agrument' and lack the basic skills to construct a convincing one.

It does tend towards the oppressive on some occasions too. Generally the rules are good, it's not peppered with profanities and no stupidly big & complicated sigs, but the authoritarian nature in which they are enforced and the hipocracy and double standards sometimes displayed gets a bit much some times.

For me though, the good outweighs the bad if you avoid/ignore the stuff that hacks you off. Much like real life...!

My local community forum is hellish, full of gossips and keyboard politicians and the moderation/rules make this place look like a hippy commune. Embarrassing.

I'm only a member of 4 forums : Ocuk, Fancy Rats, FFinsider and airsofting forums.

None of which I would say are bad but Fancy rats has just been updated and they've made it look pants. The airsofting forums has a really stupid pic in the background that makes it run slower than it used to.

thinking about it, i'm a member of probably 10 or so fourms. 2 are techie ones, the rest are hobby related;

ocuk
techspot
kendoworld
blades-uk
tanithfirstandonly
myprotein
avforums
thebrethren
puzo
eiha

The best forum I'm a member of has to be http://www.akitarescue.org.uk/

The worst has to be a bodybuilding/wieght lifting site that I joined when I used to be into weight training, I'm not going to link it due to the sheer amount of offensive/garbage posts made on it.

Everyone should :p As you said "I know its my choice to be here" but we will help all we can. We've made the rules as simple and clear as possible so they're really aren't difficult to understand but if you are unsure on something, you can always ask someone to check first.

They do get deleted on occasion but such words are more tongue in cheek rather than seen as swearing. Of course it does depend on what context they are used in. The odd one isn't really a problem, although if they were abused or the use was significantly increased they would be clamped down too. :)

Don't forget people that there are a few of us and we all use our personal judgement on some matters, so if people think something is unjust or want clarification, our emails are in the FAQ. :p
