for me it was a loft insulator.
i remember working in the summer in the scorching heat in some really really small lofts sweating away in the dark and itching..

i have just insulated our loft at home and it reminded me of it.
terrible terrible job it was.

what was yours ?

Work experience for the Public Health Laboratory Service, the smell of some of the samples after having been in an oven at 35oC over night still haunt me to this day! Never smelt anything so bad in my life since.

Cleaner in a slaughterhouse.

Scraping up all the offcuts of fat and stuff from the floor.
Stuck it out for 2 days.
It was horrible.

Working in a software firm on support and sales.

It was horrible. I hated every day of it. We were under so much pressure. I was so pleased to get out.

You know those green crates that the vegetables are in in the supermarket, worked in a washing machine for those. Horrible job, long hours and wrinkly skin on hands.

Working for a packing company, got stuffed in small room with my mate full of foreign workers wearing a horrible thick lab coat and a face mask in the midst of summer heat placing tablets in blister packets with minimal break time.

urgh, left after how dire the conditions were, I just thought it was a warehouse job of some sort.

was only there two days and I got a Job at a Marriott hotel back when I had just left school and gone on to further education.

After being made redundant and looking for a job I took a temp job for a company that made packaging... management were belligerent and overbearing, the air filtration system had long ago packed up so fine particles and solvents weren't getting removed from the air (massive health hazard) not to mention being summer got very warm. Facilities were run down toilet/break room stank to high heaven and had mold on the walls. Got in and at my desk a little over 5 minutes before shift started and was bitched at for not being there atleast 15 minutes earlier. Most people didn't take a break all day, eating where they worked - when taking lunch was constantly hassled to get back to work and how there wasn't a job for "slackers" I walked out half way through the afternoon and never returned (complained to the temp agency about it but they were still filling positions there weeks later).

Amazon warehouse, terrible environment to work in. Bosses treated all staff with suspicion, and the threat of losing your job or getting a disciplinary "Point" on your record were the only motivational tools used.

Entering and exiting the premises you were searched by security staff by firstly going through an airport style scanner then if that rang getting scanned with a hand held metal detector. Could rant all day about that place...

My first job as a teenager was with a third sector organisation, which had printed thousands of booklets on something or another but had included incorrect information on a few pages. They printed stickers to cover over these errors and needed someone to apply them, which is where I came in.

I spent two weeks in a basement with no windows and a single dim lightbulb, performing the same action over and action (Open to page x, apply sticker, go to page x, sticker, put magazine in box). Each magazine needed three stickers and I think there were about 3,000 magazines.

I've heard some pretty terrible things about working at Amazon. I hate their motivational videos saying things like "we like to get excited about customers" and "every order in the warehouse is like a treasure hunt". What a load of crap. It sounds horrific [I still order from there though, ahem].

First job as a teenager working in the summer at a place called cotswold chemicals, they sold acids, solvents etc but mainly oil..... now I'm not the strongest of people, rather skinny and lacking in the muscle department, but for 8 hours straight I'd be moving around 25 litre containers of oil, which doesn't sound too bad until you've had to unload a whole pallet of them on to shelving taller than you are.

Worst bit though had to be being sent outside to drain a barrel of industrial solvent into these jugs....with no sort of mask etc. I'm no fool so i was stood holding this thing at arms length trying to get my face as far from breathing in the fumes as i could possibly get. Oh and not forgetting being given gardening gloves as hand protection for carrying around the industrial acid containers.......i left the day after that.
