Worst Month Ever *RANT WARNING*

This is just plain wrong. The only thing they cannot refuse to pay out for is any damage to third party persons or property. They are entitled to refuse to payout to the policyholder if the vehicle was unroadworthy.

Interestingly, the MOT status is utterely irrelevent, had it been the other way round and he had totally legal tyres but no MOT, he'd have got a payout.

Yeah agreed, I was going to say: What happens if his MOT was fine 10 months ago but since then 3 of his tyres have completley gone bald and his brakes are shot from months of careless/high speed driving?

Ignorance is NOT an excuse.

Can always rely on OCUK residents to start picking holes in someones thread like this. That car could easily be a result of a simple spin , front end hits tree car flips round etc.. Supposing no one here ever drives above the speed limit or infact has never appraoched the limit markers on their tyres. Hes not come on here begging for sympathy and hes not once mentioned that he was thinking of contending the insurance company until someone on here mentioned it.

Also Fox , tactful as ever.

£22K car at 21? How much does your job pay? Bit of a nutter for taking out such a huge loan just to buy a car like that. Anyway, other than the car I feel for you mate, sounds like your housemate isn't someone you really ought to be living with though so maybe thats a good thing? There are plenty more girls out there, plus I don't think that is a priority at the moment judging by your other issues.

Chin up, things can only get better.

However, if the tyres ARE shot like the insurance company stated then it would have contributed to the fact that he crashed (more than likely).

They aren't exactly going to lie about the state of his tyres as they must have been examined and declared in such a poor state.

I think the OP even said that he was used to going around the specific bend in question but doesn't really know what happened, maybe due to higher speed. Maybe also partially due to the fact that he had significantly less grip?

Carp happens at the end of the day.

I like to reserve my sympathy for people who are in need of it, not people who caused their own financial hardship by taking out a £22,000 loan to buy a Toyota and then not having enough money to put legal safety critical tyres on it and then wondering why they crashed it and the insurance company didn't want to know. He doesn't need sympathy he needs to take a long hard look at what he's done and hopefully learn from it. What were you doing with such a huge loan to buy a brand new car if it left you so skint you couldnt put tyres on it!

There are thousands of people in this country more deserving of sympathy, people in really horrid situations which were NOT as a result of their own ill judgements!

Todays sympathy quota is with this family:

Not the guy who cheaped out on his tyres and took out a whacking great finance package.

I still don't get how a Celica that was not made past the 56 reg was sold to him for £22k. The dealership I worked at struggled to sell a 56 plate Storm Blue GT with 9k miles on it for £16,999.

It must have been one of the last ones to be registered, old stock kicking around. The sales team must have LOVED him paying full list on a discontinued car

Bad luck mate. as said you can manage without the girl, it is the job and the car that suck the most.

Perhaps try and get a job and rent a house within walking distance incase the car stuff goes even worse?

I was probablt driving with ilegal tyres for half of last month. Sometimes it is hard to fit stuff in on time but after reading this I am also going to be more careful myself.

I've said this to you umpteen times now, but if I were you I'd move home with your parents (even if you have to sleep on the sofa). You can sell off the stuff you don't need (the TV and PS3 should get you a good amount) and start saving some money rather than living on the edge every month.

The work situation blows but there are a few things to consider:

1) You could be employed by the contractors.
2) You're an ex-apprentice and it doesn't bode well for you to be kicked out.
3) You're qualified and have experience, the right CV will get you an assortment of jobs.

If push came to shove with work it would be worth having a word with Geoff (sp?) and/or Lucy and seeing what their position on it is.

Also there's bound to be other jobs within the company. Remember they have to try and redeploy any one who's at risk of redundancy.

Bad luck m8

As others have said, take legal advice about the insurance companies position. Instead of totally invalidating your insurance, you may well be able to come to some deal were you will lose a percentage of the payout had your car been completely road worthy.

Bad - Maybe losing your Job

Good - Possibly payout

Bad - Kicked Out of flat

Good - Easy to relocate

Bad - Owe 18K on a car you no longer have.

Good - erm...ok, I'm struggling a bit here

Bad - You lose the girl

Good - yeah..I'm gonna leave this thread about now.......

I know your meant to stay positive during the challanges life throws at you but this is ridiculous!!!!

Stay strong, "What dosnt kill you will only make u stronger!"

Thats all i can say, things surely can only get better for you, bad luck only comes in 3s so for it to come in 4 is really bad!

I hope things start to look up for you soon dude.

I dont even know where to start replying to these.

Fox is right, I'm not here for sympathy, I was bored at work and decided to post.

What I earn isn't going to be disclosed on here as other collegues use this forum.

cableguy2003 was right when he guessed what happened in the crash

That car could easily be a result of a simple spin , front end hits tree car flips round etc.

Road conditions were dry.

The only reason I hit the tree's was because of an oncoming car, I was understearing horribly at 60, which was the speed limit of the road, and was entering the corner, and took my foot off to get back into my lane fully expecting lift off oversteer which I thought the stability control and myself could have coped with.

I had a choice in that spilt second.

Trees, or head on collision with another car...

I've always known in my head that if I ever had that decision I'd prefer to risk my own pocket and my own life and take the trees instead of possibly killing someone else completely innocent as well as myself.

Problem is when stability control kicked in the front end bit down and the whole car pivoted, I still think now that if TC was off I may have been able to hold it better...

Guess I'll never know...

And the car was the car I've always wanted, I wanted a brand new car, I've always wanted a celica ever since my mate had a modified gen 6 when I was younger, and when I found possibly the last Gen 7 GT on a forecourt anywhere in the world, in the exact colour I wanted, I did the math and worked out I could afford the finance and insurance and got it.

It had 60miles on it when I bought it.

But yeah, my math didnt include upkeep, I've done run's on santa pod on the same tyres that I crashed on, thats how they wore down in such a small amount of milage.

I'm gonna miss that car.

But end of the day, hands up, my fault for not maintaining it...
