Ok so we've had the scenic and fast roads so what about roads you do everything you can to avoid?? ;)

I know someone will say the M25 but I have never queued on it somehow :o

My worst condidate is two actually...

The A205 and A406....They needed to make the south and north circ bigger before the M25 imo :D

Have you never been past Heathrow?

I have been in queues past there at 3am!

I go round most sections more than once a month at all times and never

Do the M3 exit to the M2 most often and have NEVER dropped below 50 - am I special? :p

I will also vouch for the M25, i used to drive it lots, and it only ever seemed to snarl up around the M4 junction during rush hour.
The occaisional accident slowed me down a bit, bit was normally plain sailing!

Im going to go for the M4, between junction 12 and London. Its always busy, slow, stopped, accident prone!

lets see - local roads only....

Nelson Street: Bombed in the 2nd world war, resurfaced. badly deteriorated until.....

The council dug it up to stick a big fat rainwater drainage pipe down the middle of the road. Resurfaced (but only the dug up bit)

Then less than a month later the gas board comes along and digs it up and spends the next 6 months parking vans there with no workmen. Yet another shoddy resuracfing of the middle of the road and off they go again :|

Awaiting the next chapter of chaos :)

Been reading the best roads thread and a lot of people are saying Snakes Pass, was fun when i drove over it a few months back, but on a different occasion a mate took a corner a bit fast lost control mounted the verge on 1 side then came back down into the barrier saving him from a nasty fall.

thats easy-
A45 from coventry to birmingham, speed limit changes every mile so its hard to keep track what the speed limit is, that coupled with speed cameras every 100 yards makes it a cash generator.

Yep, I find the M25 a pleasure to drive on compared with the M6.

I live in Twickenham, but travel to Manchester fairly regularly as that's where I'm from.
In that journey I travel on the M25 between the M3 and M40 junctions (right past Heathrow) and it's always much better than the M6 later on in the hourney.

Depends on which part, but i'll agree with that. I HAVE to use it to commute (other roads that go the same way are under major rennovation so are worse at the moment - A500 stoke-on-trent anyone?), but J17-15 is a nightmare (seems to be the main part of the M6 that no-one knows lane discipline) with accidents almost daily :(. Also M6 Southbound J11 onwards is usually chocka too!

M6 Toll however

EDIT:

As for non M roads, the A536 and A534 into and through Congleton from Macclesfield are just awful, always far too busy and full of the "lets drive everywhere at 40mph morons". Generally my commute is a good 5-6 miles longer so I can go a different way just to avoid this congested area (centre of Congleton is a nightmare!), going the longer way round down deserted country lanes is sooooo much quicker and more fun to boot!
