Worth another 20" widescreen?

I am not sure if I should grab a second monitor. I currently have a Phillips 20" widescreen, along with a 19" 4:3 CRT, and am getting pretty anoyed with the lack of sharpness on the CRT (its not the greatest TBH) and also the resolution differences (1600x1200 VS 1680x1050) and so was thinking of grabbing a dell 20" mostly because of the composite and Svideo inputs.

Anyone think its worth the cash, or am I kinda being wasteful...

If you run enough apps at the same time, yes. Otherwise, no. Simple really! Mostly it's a work aid.

Hmmm. My bad, forgot to mention :p

I use Photoshop a HUGE amount, and so like to have pallets and other such things on one screen. At the moment I work on the image with my philips, and the CRT just looks pretty with pallets. I tend to also watch DVD's/watch movie clips/streaming music videos using my other monitor.

To be honest it sounds like you made your decison already!

The Dell is at a great price if you look around (£280 I think), so yes, It will (IMO) be worth it.

Also the positioning of the screens is equally as important, you may want to invest in some Egrotron LCD Arms.

Good luck!

Hmmm. Gonna be an expensive month for me :(

I gonna buy 2GB of ram and an x2 3800 to lol.

Truthfully, there are a few other nice monitors other than the Dell though, so not certain if I should go with that or a different one :/

I was looking at the 2005FP a couple of months ago (it would look nicer with my 1905FP). Very good monitor, was planning on using it as a TV when I wasn't using it with the PC :p
Personally, I'd get another Philips. Having two of the same monitors is just sex! Check out This Thread for some examples.

I brought a x2 3800 and the OCZ Platinum 2GB set a couple of weeks ago. Got a really nice chip, I'm putting 1.31 volts through it and it idles at 35 degrees :D not tried experimenting with the ram yet but you get a lifetime warrenty with this stuff so you can put as many volts through it as you like :D "oops, I fried my ram! can I have another set please Mr OCZ person?" ..... "Dumbass! OK. Here you go." :D lmao

One last thing is bugging me.

I am not sure if I should just save up an extra couple of hundred and buy a 24" dell instead.

I kind of like the idea of the extra resolution TBH...

Does anyone have a 20" and a 24" monitor to tell me how much of a difference there is?

Might want to hold off on the 3800X2 for the moment...a cheap Conroe system should provide more speed for not much more...I'm no CPU expert though. Dual core will help with running multiple apps on multiple screens obviously enough. If you already have a 939 board and are just upgrading the CPU I can see the appeal though.

Personally I love my 24" screen and couldn't imagine going smaller...It's probably just because I've become accustomed to it though. I've also got a 20" (4:3) screen which feels similar (1920x1200 vs. 1600x1200), but with 1680x1050 the height loss is the main compromise. If you're going to use it for DVDs and are sitting further than a few feet away those extra 4" will really help, but for a small bedroom setup you might well want to conserve the cash.

Hmmm... I have to admit I am tempted. I was going to just buy the 2405FPW though, I dont see the point in grabbing the 07?

I am really torn, save up for a few more weeks and grab the 2405, or grab the 2007FWP now :(

2405 for sure - dont bother with the 07 judgin by the general opinion of the masses!

All depends on your budget. The 007 at £280 is a complete bargain. I just snapped one up and i am thinking of getting another one.

Hmm, problem is that the 05 model would not be able to be purchased new :( I must say I am rather surprised at the masses of people that say to get the 2405 rather than the 20".

Talbs13. I agree with you somewhat, even if the 05 costs 500, then you could basically get 2 20" for the same prince = bargin tbh
