As title really, can prob get £100 for my E6300 so the 4300 would only cost £13.

My current RAM is holding it back im sure so ive got some Geil Uktra on the way this week which should see the E6300 past 3Ghz so is it really worth changing?

I'm shooting myself in the foot here but hey... not worth the change mate... you will sell your CPU at a loss for a CPU thats just not as good as the 6300

Quite simply, wait till you've got the Geil Ultra, and make the decision then, as to whether the 9x multi of the 4300 will help you out or not.

From whatever I've seen, the E4300's need more volts than the 6300's to get to speeds upwards of 3.0GHz. Best see what you can squeeze out of your existing E6300 before taking the plunge :)

I personally think that the 6300 is a better CPU then the 4300

Depends what you're after surely? The E4300 has more overclocking potential does it not? To be honest I don't really know, am just trying to work it out meself at the moment :p :)

easier? easier how? the 4300 has a higher multiplier. My e6600 is pretty crap, but that doesnt mean other cpu's are a better option than an e6600.

I see your point... and will shut up then :p

and in the same strain just because a 4300 has a high multiplier doesnt mean its going to be a better overclocker...

Yes I guess it does depend what your after... but if you had a 6300 now would you sell it for a 4300??

Nah, I wouldn't want the hassle personally. I'd look in to it and make sure I'd be getting more before I jumped if I could deal with the effort factor.

Cool :)

Just wondering dude slightly off topic... have you seen the Muse live? Went to see them this year in Manchester... they rocked :)

I'd rather have the 6300. With a good board like the DS4 you can hit higher a FSB, and the 6300s seem more likely to hit the higher overall speeds.

Yep, 3 times. going again to the first wembley gig (well, *** second day, but still effectively the first show ever at the new wembley) in the summer. Am totally obsessed :o

The E6300/DS3(or 4)/PC6400 is a proven combination that will almost definitely do 2.8GHz and, if your RAM is up to it, will almost certainly go higher. E4300's are starting to yield good results, but ultimately no better than E6600's, E6700's, E6400's or E6300's. They all do roughly 3.3-3.6GHz on air and they only differ in how you get there. If you have any of those chips, why would you spend more to get an equivalent overclock?

If your E6300 has a dished IHS or is known to idle hot at stock, then OK, change it - but otherwise I wouldn't swap a known quantity for a potential disappointment.

According to core temp its idling at 56 degrees, but Speedfan says 35 degrees. Temps dont seem to increase under load

Im still on stock cooler until i get a freezer 7 this week

Not in my case - I'm running a E4300 with a DS3 & GeIL 2GB @ 3.2GHz at stock volts.
