Assuming you game at 1080p and don't mind dropping a couple of settings to keep performance up around 60fps - No

Get a £200 HD6950 2GB and clock it to HD6970 levels or GTX560TI 448 core and again clock it a bit.

If it makes any difference this is from someone who owns a HD7970, but not for 1080p :)

basically i have about 400 pounds to either buy a new mobo and an I7 2600k or get a new gpu but i thought i would be al right for abit with my cpu :/

i was thinking about heading towards a gtx 560/570 but would i get more performance out of an amd gpu with my cpu?

TBH, GPU's are a personal taste. However, some people say Nvidia have better drivers than AMD, where as some people say different.

A 2nd hand GTX 570 would be great as they are a top card for the price.

Regarding AMD GPU's with AMD CPU's, there is no different. You are better off with Intel as they are the best.
