Well the 15" RMBP is only £300 more than the regular 15" and for that you get an SSD, faster GPU w/more VRAM, along with the vastly superior display, less size/weight and better thermals.
You'd think that a 13" one would have less of a premium but we will see soon.

anksta has already said he's going to be using it for writing/as a machine for convenience. The Air will be lighter, cheaper, and equally capable for his usage. Even at £300 there is no way that the 13" rMBP will be justifiable over the Air. This said, if he just wants it, that's another matter. But technically, definitely not worth it.
