Was looking at them new today and saw they only have one year warranty?

So how likely are these things to break? Looking at various used sites they seem to be about half the new price.

Opinions?

If you can get a 360 S second hand go for it, but the original models tend to go wrong, even with a 1 year warranty, it is a pain to keep taking it back.

Jcb33.

The Jasper models are pretty much the same as the S models on the inside. They're every bit as reliable. However, it's not all that easy to identify them. You'd need to check the power supply wattage - Jaspers are 115w as I recall.

Jasper are not the same as the S at all the Jasper has a GPU and CPU and the S has a combined GPU and CPU with a vastly different layout. The reliability though is as you say, better on both models then the previous design.

That so?

Either way, I've had my Jasper in a cupboard for 2 years and it's been rock solid, so I can't think of any reason to avoid a Jasper.

This.

I went looking for a Jasper when they first came out after my much older (2006/7) Xbox succumbed to the RROD and I've not had a problem with it since.

I agree the Jasper consoles can be hard to spot but I believe the consoles have a manufacturing date on the rear, if you're buying from eBay then just ask the seller to check, anything post-2009 is a safe bet I would say.

Also if you're going for a basic Arcade model you can tell them from older versions as they have 256MB of on board memory which might be mentioned in the listing.

If you can get a cheap Jasper then why not, although I sold mine and bought an S as soon as it was released. Far nicer bit of hardware overall, even the Jasper can be quite noisy at times.

I think that for the most part just go for a new ish one. I have one of the 250G limited Ed FF XIII consoles. It's not a Jasper model if the post above is correct; mine's 150w PSU. But it works fine. It has occasional hiccups, but so do most models. I'm sure you'll be able to find plenty of slims about second hand, especially with the limited edition consoles coming out at the minute. I'm sure you'll find a good'n
