Having a periodic sift through some paperwork and want to get shot of lots

This varies from stuff with just my address to partial bank details and NI numbers etc, where I work

I used to just burn this stuff but not so able to where I live now

yeah since moving house last year I bought a shredder and chopped up a good few years worth of pointless paperwork. Even stuff spanning back to when i was at uni over 10 yrs ago!

I've got a rexel shredder

My parents have one, and it has appeared to be a very good investment, especially as they have a bit of woodland. They just chuck the chippings in the compost. They say that its worth getting a decent one though, as otherwise they can break very easily

Can shredders handle corrugated cardboard? Takes me ages tearing old boxes up to put in the compost bin.

I think some of the expensive ones, my mums can even shred DVDs.

Especially worth it if you or your kids have a hamster!

yup takes ages to do it by hand...

got to the point where i just stuck everything in a boiling bucket of water with some bleach in it and then left them to dry in a shopping bag on the balcony

theres a video of a cow going into one of those.

I think they are used to destroy diseased cows , pretty sure in the video I saw a few years ago that the cow was still alive

Depends how much you want to spend and are going to use it after this initial batch, but I bought the amazon basics one and it's been great.

Had it quite a while now, it does DVDs and C/Cards too and I use it probably about once a week, though I have been using it a lot today, got 3 carrier bags full of shredding done.

I suppose a shredder is a necessity for an accountant, right?

*ducks* :p

I have a Swordfish 1000XCD crosscut shredder, has seperate slot for credit cards & cd's, it's been superb, had it around 7 years & it's still going strong.
It gets a monthly or bi monthly oil sachet depending on use & occasionally a extra squirt of Fellowes shredder oil, depending on the paper, some of the paper is very dusty, chalky, plus I never feed it's quoted 10 sheets, usually around 5 sheets.

I need a new one for work. I bought a little one which was great when we only had a few customers but now it keeps over heating. The pile just gets bigger and bigger to the point it is easier to take home and burn. So if anyone can recommend me one for about 200-250 quid.
