Is it worth getting sky broadband? they are claiming that i can get a 16mb line for only £10 a month, is this too good to be true?

I am currently on virgin media 4mb and i do always get 4mb speeds, is sky as reliable?

Recently got Sky for £5 extra a month i think on top of TV bill. Its not as reliable as the ISP we were with before. Their service was consistent and there was no problem that i remember. Weve only been with Sky for around 2 weeks, and although the speed and quality is decent most of the time, the speed has sometimes dropped to around 5kB/s download for an hour or so. But then other times it can download at 500kB/s.

hmm, i pretty much always get near 500KB/s on my virgin media connection at the moment and if i went for sky it would be their (what they claim to be) 16MB service which is £10 a month which if its true beats the pants off my 4MB £25 a month virgin package,

If there are stability issues though i think i may stick with virgin

You could always tell Virgin that your going to leave there service and go to SKY as they offer better deals. Virgin will then give you a better deal money/speed wise than what your currently on ;)

The grass is always greener, if your happy with the service you get why bother?

I am on Plus net, they used to/still do get slated a lot, been with them 4 years now, get the full 8mb, no problems at all and I do some serious newsgroup leeching!!

The first thing to do is tell Virgin that you have been offered the 16Mb package for £10. They will usually offer you a deal i.e. a free upgrade to the 20Mb package for £25 a month.

Nope i'm on that package and i'm getting 12.5 to 13meg, due to the distance from me to the exchange, which isn't that bad.

Yes it is worth getting Sky.

Nope meaning that there are no catches, and the speed stated is the speed if u are lucky enough to live very clost to the exchange.

I mean it's not bad in the sence of the distance from me to the exchange. only losing 3-4.5Mb in that distance.

sorr y ididn't make myself more clear in the beginning

Worth getting Sky if:

-You live in an Easynet LLU enabled exchange (hence 16mbit unlimited for £10)
-You don't mind a 1 year contract (compared to 1-3 months for many other isps)
-You don't need low latency (base ping of 35ms+ compared to 10ms from other isps)
-You don't need any extra frills like webspace, webmail or news servers

I've got the 16mbit package which connects at around 12.5mbit giving 1.3meg/sec downloads or thereabouts. Fairly reliable and has no traffic limits which is hard to come by these days.

IF it's available in your area. Out here in the sticks I can only get what's available through a standard BT exchange. The place is too small for any supplier to bother putting in LLU kit.

I just switched from Virgin Cable 4Mbit to Sky ADSL 16Mbit and I get roughly ~5Mbit speeds (which is good as I live in the middle of nowhere) for £10/month which is not only faster and much cheaper, but also doesn't have annoying traffic shaping or caps of any sort.

I couldn't be happier with it so far. Speeds are good, pings are good, and I have had no slowdown or disconnect.
