worth installing windows 7

I love it! Rock solid, only had to install 3 drivers, ICHR9 driver, realtek HD audio driver and ATI 9.1's.

Will definitely be buying it when it goes retail, I liked Vista 64bit but W7 is much nicer to use I found.

Will you complain about glitches and issues?
Will you ignore all error reports and not bother sending them to Microsoft?
Will you just come back and moan that is just 'Vista with a new Taskbar'
Will you refuse to buy Windows 7 in the future if it doesnt work perfectly for you now?

If you answer yes to any of those, then no, dont install it. Windows 7 is a Beta, meaning it will have issue, problems and glitches. If you are prepaired to accept that and know that things will not work sometimes, and will take the time to send those error reports to Microsoft, then yes, go ahead.

People who complain about a Beta have got completely the wrong mindset.

For me, It was useless, I installed it, which went smoothly.. and then it locks up and crashes a few times a day. It's defiantly a beta OS.

It is not stable enough imo to replace your current OS, but it is prettier than xp/vista.

Granted different hardware configs vary, but been rock solid here have had no issues at all so far.

I have always had no problems with windows vista 64 and been happy with it but when i dual booted and put windows 7 on i could not beleve how stable and gud windows 7 is. Only thing that stops me from taking the duel boot away and using it as my main system is i download a lot of anime series and use tmpgenc 4.0 xpress but it don't seem to work on windows 7.

No ******* **** Sherlock! How long did it take you to realise it was a Beta? for most people, READING THE ******* FILE NAME!

Im so tired of people saying "its not stable enough as a main OS"... THATS BECAUSE IT ISNT A MAIN OS!!!

Beta testing is there so that people can find out where it breaks and MS can fix it before it gets launched! Did you bother to tell MS about your issues? Reported a bug did you? No.. didnt think so.

calm down lol. if somebody finds it unstable and doesnt want to use it for that reason then fine. what do you expect him to do? send the report and put up with the crashing? lol

Hehe calm down skeeter. I did report the bugs I encountered, well some of them, I got bored of doing so after a while.

The Op asked a question. I gave him my experience, rather than just a "yep do it", or "don't bother".

Some beta software is perfectly stable/secure to be used in production environments.. This is not, that needs to be made clear.
Just because software is beta does not allways mean it isn't suitable for, as you put it "main" use.

So I'll repeat just for you.

I don't think it is stable enough to replace your main OS
Or
its not stable enough as a main OS

Take your pick.

I've been running it a week now and it seems fine so far, no less stable than Vista x64 was and everything seems to run as well. I am still plagued with a random issue of slowdowns although I suspect a hardware problem now as it's happened on multiple OS's. I can't figure it out, after a cold boot everythign will run fine but I hit a certain point when random apps will become sluggish and start eating 100% CPU. For example I am running perfectly fine now but later I may launch Audacity and it could take 2 minutes to import a short MP3 track where now it takes seconds. Apart from the random issues I am having I do like the features such as the taskbar.

Muppet.

Installed as a Virtual Machine at the moment, don't feel it is worth using as a main OS.

Use as a VM test, find glitches and reports to MS to make the final version much better than Gashta

my experience of the beta has been immensely positive - no lockups or anything like that

the only major crash i had was caused by VMware crashing while it was linked directly to the HDD, forcing me to hard-reboot the system. (yes, i reported it)

running it on a laptop that really struggled to run Vista, and it's running better than XP was.

ok running it now and so far its going good no issues yet ive got a fairly good spec system so i shouldn't have any issues :) fingers crossed
think i'll be buying when it is relsised thanks for all the replys boys

Installed it a few days before the release and has been running 24/7 since. It's blue screened on me once but overall its been very stable. No major issues, all my devices and programs work perfectly. I'm very impressed with such an early beta.
