Hi guys in the next couple of weeks i am expecting to get a cheque of £5000 for an accident i had a couple of years ago but anyways, i am thinking of getting the "Ultima Extreme QUAD SLi 7950 GX2" AMD Athlon 64 FX62 Dual DDR2 Silent System (FS-024-OK)". Does any one have this and is it worth 3k?
If not any other reccomendations would be great!

Thanks :)

(1) I don't know whether you want to set your system up in a RAID configuration, if not - then most likely you will want only one of these drives.

(2) I went for 2 320gig drives rather than one 500 gig. They cost roughly the same, but you get around an extra 140 gigs of storage (unformatted).

(3) I'm never for one spending lots of money on a case, with all the components in your system you'd need lots of power, so obviously get rid of the paltry 400w PSU supplied with this case.

(4) I'm not sure on the graphics card front, other people will no doubt choose different ones. The motherboard I think benifets ATI cards better than Nvidia as far as I know. Though don't quote me on that :). Also I'm uncertain whether people buy two cards anymore, again taking one out will keep you well under budget.

(5) Woo even a back up solution, this is like the bigger older brother version of the drive I'm about to buy.

*Ever so slightly over budget. You said that you were interested in the OcUK system, which doesn't contain monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers and OS and so I have done the same to your spec.

I didn't think that I could spend £3k simply on a base unit but I just about did. God I wouldn't mind this system at all....*drools*

You should def build an Intel conroe rig. I don't think quad SLI is stable at the moment, not sure. I don't think its worth it, one card will be enough.

I wouldn't spend that much on a base unit, you should be looking to get a monitor aswell.

With conroe you can buy a cheaper processor and overclock it to the same speeds as the most expensive proccessor. Bearing this in mind I'd be thinking about spending 1 to 1 and half thousand to get a really good base unit.

Most certainly buy Conroe, anything else will be a HUGE waste of your budget.

If you do get SLi make sure you invest in a nice big 20"+ TFT to actually make use of the power.

Ile need a new monitor and speakers aswell! Any reccomendations?

in your price range iad say a Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor to get the most out of the gpu, there on oc uk for £622.74,
that's my next purchace to finaly move away from CRT.

I'll mirror everyone else abd say go conroe, i did and it far surpases anything i have ever had before!

speaker wise i've been reading good things about the Logitech Z-5450 5.1 315 Watts Wireless Speakers. there at £240.29

all top end stuff, there's plenty of adiquate stuff out there for a lot cheaper.
