just got my self the q6600 today to go with my 5770 i got Tuesday.

Ive got a E2140 thats lapped and i got 10-12c drop, am i best testing the cpu let it run in games/3dmark and generally for a while or should i lap it right away?

also does a lapped cpu become worthless?

test the cpu, check what kind of overclock it'll do before lapping and see what the temps are. most importantly you want to see if the cpu actually works before you lap in case you need to send it back. :p

edit - no a lapped cpu is definitely not worthless. plenty of people on the bay and on here are happy to buy lapped cpus if the previous owner managed a good overclock with them.

yer, i got 2.2ghz which was very very stable. never missed a heart beat and ran at 27c idle and 35 tops loaded on prime95 and that was on a decent stock cooler. one that has a copper core and is round with curved fins.

i dont even have a clue what a E2140 goes for to be honest. and i got another 6 weeks till members market is open to me :(

e2140s don't go for a lot tbh, they're pretty much the bottom end of the dual core range (ignoring the 1000 series celerons). think I've seen e2140s sell for a bit under 20...

why not lap your cooler instead of the CPU, its cheaper if something goes wrong. I have done it twice now in the past and got good results.
