Worth moving from Leopard to Snow Leopard?

Must. Find. Time. I'm coming from Tiger unfortunately so it's wipe the disk and start again time. :(

That's going to feel like a shift in the space time continuum.. once you're at leopard or later just use time machine then simply install the OS with the TM option.. go away for an hour or two and it's back to normal but with a new OS.

As long as you have an Intel box you're going to wonder why you didn't make the jump earlier!

I've got one of the original Intel Mac Minis. No x64 for me but at least it's the Core Duo model, so it's not a total loss. :)

I just need a Time Machine! :)

I'd also recommend a fresh wipe and install when changing OS.

Most people who "upgrade" do so for the time saving, but I'm a firm believer that you only really take the inherent problems with you. A clean install and a big fat combo update and you only have to really install the apps.

Half the fun is playing with a new OS, so once it's configured you can back up using time machine/NAS but at least start from scratch.

That's my 2p anyway.

Totally agree with you. The only OS 'upgrades' I do are on my Linux box(es). Those don't really count.

A clean install also avoids the problem of naughty APEs killing your system.

I think its well worth it. I got my Macbook with Leopard and just went with the upgrade version of Snow Leopard when it came out. No issues with it at all - and it seems a lot more responsive. And for £25, its a no brainer really. ;)

I can report back that I did a fresh install and just installed iLife from the original media.

Feels more responsive than when i first got the laptop, and I like the changes to the dock (click brings more options etc).

Other than speed I can't see much of a difference - what other things have been changed?

Here's a list.

To be honest Snow Leopard and Leopard have both been big under-the-hood upgrades. The belief is that the changes in the two latest operating systems are gearing up for something more significant (and GUI-different) in the near future.
