Hey gents,

Just wondering if its worth me purchasing a controller pad for the pc for games... specifically thinking that gta etc may be better on a controller, and some of the old retro games I've got such as sonic etc?

If so, which one would you buy?

Thanks

Anyone will work fine,i have a official wired one, paid about £12 if i remember rightly, works very very well on loads of games.

Been using a wireless Xbox 360 controller for years. I use it for everything (inc Battlefield 4, Titanfall etc)

Am certainly at (small) disadvantage playing first person shooters but they are less 'twitchy' than the days of Quake III Arena/Unreal Tournament now anyway.

But for Third person games like Assassins Creed, Arkham City etc or driving games like Grand Theft Auto IV/V they are much better IMO. The fact that you have analogue control over running speed, steering, acceleration, brake etc makes all the difference.

One caveat is that I play all my games in the lounge on my main TV, from the comfort of my sofa. Not sitting at a desk using a PC monitor.

Some people hate them, I think they are great. I barely touch a game unless it has full controller support.

If MS release the Xbox one controller with a USB Wireless dongle thing you might as well get that as it is slightly better than the Xbox 360 pad (IMO) with features such as force feedback triggers and better deadzone, but I think it's £69.99 which is a mental price.

If you have Bluetooth capable motherboard then you could use a PS4 Dualshock 4 but they don't hold their charge for very long.

It was definitely a good buy for me. A lot of games natively support the pad and some just generally work better than KB+M controls.

Although I rarely use mine (wired 360), it does come in handy for the odd game that isn't m + kb friendly. I'm not up to scratch with some of the other models of controllers, though I think the 360 pad still ranks up there with the best.

Only used mine once but I don't usually play the sort of games where its necessary.
Having said that, I found it to be very good when I did.

Indeed. In a lot of games, as soon as you start pressing buttons on the controller the control prompts and pop ups all change to xbox buttons.

Use my 360 very occasionally for games that are not K&M friendly.

The 360 pads can be connected to some Android tablets with an OTG cable and work well in some games. I play the GTA games with one as it far better than the touch screen controls.

Has anyone tested the new Xbox One controller on a pc yet?

They said drivers were coming just wondered if they worked yet?

You can now use the xbox one controller but think you need to use a usb cable though.. Not sure if the wireless works on it
Here are the drivers:

I only use the wireless 360 controller, i use my pc connected to my tv so using a keyboard and mouse is a huge no-no with my current keyboard and mouse
Defo worth it if you ask me,

I have a PS3 with the main TV, but Xbox wired controller for the PC. It works perfectly and I can game on the PC with no issues.

A decent joypad is essential for PC gaming these days. At least half the games I play are more suited and more fun with a pad. Go buy one!
