im not saying you must use one neither...its just ive been thinking of getting a fusion as well and saw this, so i thought id mention it.
i use a appogee at the min and that had no backplate , but if i recall most blocks/cpu coolers bend the mboard........worst was thermaltake blue orb..my asus board was like a banana
but when i installed it in my case it straightened out a bit(sounds dodgee 
) but it kept my prescott very CooL
