Worth replacing the stock paste?

I have an EVGA 8800GTX ACS3 edition, but I still get very high temps with it, close to 90c at load.

I was wondering if it's worth stripping the card down and replacing the stock paste with Ceramique or AS5?

Anyone tried this?

From my experience it varies from card to card. Most of the time there's a TON of thermal paste on from the factory....so re-applying it a bit more thinly can reduce temps a little. The paste itself is pretty good though.

Are you keeping the card free of dust? Have you tried playing with the fanspeeds using Rivatuner or something?

those temps are hot. i put a pci expansion slot cooler under mine blowing cold air directly on to it. its worth taking a look but i wouldnt have thought it would cut the temps by a lot.

Yep, card is free of dust, just cleaned it yesterday. My case is quite small and there is a lot in there - 3 HDD's etc, so that definately doesn't help.

Also noise is an issue, I hate it and will always sarifice temps a little for noise control, but I would like to make things a little cooler.

I have an Antec Spot Cool blowing onto the front of the card.

I currently have 2 of my 3 HDD's at the front bottom of the case and the 3rd in the 5.25 bays. I might move one more up there to free the intake airflow from the lower front a little, and maybe even put another fan at the back of the 3.5 bays to help draw the cool air towards the card.

Hmmm, I'm also thinking if I cut a 120mm blowhole right above the card and install an intake fan there, that would make a huge difference. What do you reckon?

Thanks for the replies.

Mine used to get equally as hot (before I got the Accelero Xtreme), one possibility could be bad contact under the IHS, although that would be rare and would be impossible to keep the IHS off with the stock cooler.

I'm also interested in this, as my 8800gtx runs around 90 degrees under load also.
I can't replace the cooler with anything larger thanks to everything being crammed in a Shuttle P2 case.
