Right now im running just a seagate 7200rpm 32mb cach 500GB. Im planning to build a new rig in a year or two and I want to transfer my hard drive to my new rig and buy a new cheap one for my old rig im selling. Is it worth buying a SSD to hold my OS, files, games ect so i can keep that and just move it to all my new rigs im going to be building in the future?

Ok thanks. So should I just wait year or two then get a SSD and then move all my files from this hard drive to that, and would I have to have a fresh install of Win 7 or can i just copy it or is that just going to mess everything up

I wouldn't go dumping everything on an SSD. I only install things I can lose on mine, i.e. OS/Game installs (I have an image of my OS so no major loss).

I've already had 1 SSD completely die on me for no reason so I wouldn't put too much trust in them for a while :)

I thought they were suppose to be rock solid stable? What happened?

Not a clue to be honest. It was running perfectly but one day my Windows froze, rebooted and it was dead. Wasn't showing in the bios or post screen nor in another PC.

I had only had it 4 months at that point.

personally i still think SSD's are in their infancy. Im waiting on the die shrinks on nand chips (32nm, 28nm etc), so theres a decent amount of storage for a reasonable price. Not a big fan of this whole "install the OS and maybe a couple of games on one, then dump everything else on a HDD" saga
