Worth upgrading from 1070 to Titan X?

More like a 50-60% difference in benches, and at 4K in certain games maybe less.

Decent upgrade but a lot of lolly to fork out for some extra frames. I know it's easy to say, but maybe worth hanging on for 8-12 weeks to see what's on offer then. Or stuff it and buy the Pascal TX haha.

TITANXP have 86% more SP, 86% more TMU and 87% more memory bandwidth.
The only reason why is average only 60% faster than GTX1070 is beacause it runs at average 1600-1650Mhz.
GTX1070 runs close to 1900Mhz out of the box.

TITANXP have huge close to 30% oc headroom.GTX1070 have 10-12% at best.So when both OC there will be 80-90% gap
TITANXP(at 1600-1650mhz) is average 60% faster than GTX1070(at 1900mhz)in 4k

You'll probably have to watercool the titanx to get the best benefit from it. That's another £100+ on watercooling setup on top of the price of the titanX. Is that outlay worth the extra performance?

When you hear an air cooled GTX 1080 running in a PC next to another one with a watercooled Pascal Titan the answer does not take much working out.:)

Which Titan X are you talking about? The Pascal one or the Maxwell one?

If it's the Maxwell one, then no.

If it's the Pascal one, still no, unless you are getting it for a really good price. And by really good price I mean around the £800 mark.

Remember the 1080Ti is coming soon, probably in March.

During a benchmark run there is a very noticeable difference in sound but during regular gaming not so much and there's some very quiet 1080's out there. I've tried three recently!

Also I have no doubt at idle and lower stress games/apps where my 1080 fans don't even kick in that it's a lot quieter than a watercooled titan with the water pump and fans going.

I'm an absolute silent pc freak and I don't buy water cooling as a silent solution only quieter under extreme load.

Even at 100% load my 4 way SLI Titan rig makes less noise than a single air cooled 1080 at idle.

Not even the fans spin up on the PSUs in the Titan rig when it is overclocked and running flat out as it has 2 x Corsair 1500 watt units.

No coil whine either.

Water cooling done right is very quiet.

And very expensive too I would imagine :p;)

I'm going to say no they don't! A 1080 at idle doesn't even spin it's fans so it makes 0db. 4 titans whilst maybe quiet still have pump noise and fan noise. They won't be 0db.

For 4K gaming, there'll probably be a noticable improvement, but it's a pretty penny to pay at the moment.

Probably worth waiting for both the 1080ti (similar performance for less money) and Vega before making a purchase

So you don't have fans in your case to cope with the airflow that AIB coolers dump in the case. Of course you have fans or your system would get pretty hot.

On the other hand I have got enough rads that I don't even have to use fans if I don't want to.

Here are a couple that I can just plug into the loop.

I also have dual pumps which allows me to turn them down very low for silence if I an not benching.

What is even better is my Titan PC is actually in an open test bench case so no fans needed for that.

Sorry but air cooled is louder than water cooled.

I'm not sure you quite understand but a 1080 at idle produces 0db and no heat worth mentioning. I have silent wings 3 case fans on silent mode and they are inaudible with my ear pressed to them.

Your argument and let's go back to it was that 4 titans at 100% load are quieter than a 1080 at idle. Not quite sure how you can get quieter than 0db but I don't own 4 titans but I know they won't be less than 0db at 100% load. Dont forget water still uses air to cool it. Air fans and pump noise at 100% on four titans will not be less than 0db.

If you have got enough rad space fans are not needed.

Also do you game with your 1080 @Idle, no I don't think so.

4 watercooled Titans @100% produce no noise and you can game on them too.

You are just making yourself look silly with this argument.

I also own a number of cards with AIB partner coolers which are about as good as they get for air and yes they do make a noise.

He has got a point. You did after all state this:

Even at 100% load my 4 way SLI Titan rig makes less noise than a single air cooled 1080 at idle.

Now, the WC SLI system might make the same noise as a 1080 at idle. It doesn't make less noise though, with most of them running with no fans until 60degress - and none of them approach that heat whilst at idle.

Of course, at load then you are quite correct and the difference in noise will be significant.

In my original point I did not single out FE or AIB 1080s.

And also as I have pointed out you can not game with a 1080 running @Idle.:D
