I certainly wouldn't bother. The 3600 is still a great chip - maybe wait a few months as we should be seeing some more interesting/better value 5000 parts then.
How many months do you think?

If you play on 1080p >144hz I'd say it's worth it. If you play 1440 or 4k 144hz then it's not really worth it. You'd gain a few % performance, if any.
The received wisdom is it's not really worth the upgrade if you aren't also increasing core count. I'm mostly GPU constrained on an overclocked 2600 with a 5700xt, so I dont think 3600 -> 5600 will help you much. The 8 or 12 core chips would be a good upgrade for your code compiling.
What do use the system for? gaming or?Had to google that word. Yeah I'm quite happy with it. I might get rid of my 3700x in favour of it.
It's also 1000 points better on firestrike than the 3700x
What resolution you game on?Yeah I only use it for gaming. It would depend on your GPU I think. £120 is quite a premium to pay. I did the swap for £50 which I'm happy with ( not counting the fact I had to buy a new board )

My case is a unique situation, there is £120 price difference if I opt for 5600x over 3700x
my GPU is RTX 3080
I have no use / real need for that £120 but still don’t want to “waste” it if there is no meaningful improvements.also the core downgrade feels wrong.
