Worth upgrading from Q9550 to an i5 2500k?

Will try to OC again in a min, I got a akasa cooler with a 120mm fan on it so cooling should not be a problem.

How can I find out about memory my memory timings?
Thanks

pecnarf ignore my previous post.. I just set voltages and memory timing manually and managed to get 3.4ghz which made things a bit quicker which is awesome.
Tried to go for 3.6ghz but PC froze once booted to windows. I can see that the mobo rated fsb 1600mhz. Does this mean 3.4mhz is my limit?

Todays update (-:

The pc crashed after posting last night... RAM memory is rated at 1.8v will attempt to up it to 2.1v

Would be reallly nice if I could get it stable at 3.4ghz or 3.6ghz may be. Any extra would be really nice a I didnt think I could go higher than 3.1 before pecnarf suggested to set timings to manual.

Cheers

I've just seen that you are. To be honest a stable 3.4ghz will be enough, 200mhz extra isn't that important. What are you running the vcore at?

I set it last night to 1.35v which is probably a little high will try to lower if i can get it stable at 3.4ghz

Will post my BIOS settings tonight.
Thanks

system keeps crashing at 3.4ghz

settings:
DDR2 6400 5 5 5 18 24 2t
Vcore 1.3v
VTT 1.35v
VTL REF auto
Chipset voltage 1.36v
Dram v1.8 -2.1 auto tried all

tried leaving all settings on auto except memory timings and v core which enabled me to run the pc for 20 min before it crashed...
if anyone can suggest anything please let me know
at the moment i set the fsb to 370.
cheers

Never really used Nvidia chipsets at all but reports are they don't take to clocking Quads that well, no idea about the 740i.

I went from a q9550 at 3.4ghz to my 2500k at 4.3ghz and i'm pleased with the upgrade. Is it night and day difference? No, but depending on the application it is very noticeable. I got a reasonable amount for my old bits which offset the cost a little and its always nice to have something new and shiny to play with :) I think going to an ssd was just as good an upgrade and far cheaper though.
