Worth upgrading from X4 to X6 ?

tools like k10stat allow you do have custom CNQ profiles even with overlocking. This is something I'd love to see on intel as speedstep doesn't work very well with ocing. For example on my old Phenom 2 setup I could be idling .8V 1200MHz, then in a flash when needed I'd be at 3850MHz 1.488V :)

I'm not sure if overdrive works with nvidia chipsets...it probably does though. Why do you ask? your board in your sig is one of the best you can buy.

As for your 3rd question I can't answer that. Are you sure it doesn't help though? have you tried any benchmarking programs that allow selecting the number of used threads?

hmm I see now that you have 2 systems in your sig.

If you decide to clock then I would go with the red system as the board is quite good for clocking.

Also what are your thoughts between the 2 GPU setups? How's the 470 SLI in relation to the trifire setup?

as for the results jumping around. u need to remember these chips have only just been released. most of the motherboard bios's are beta for x6 which as bugs in.

You will find with these that even with CnQ disabled the CPU will still dynamically clock.

At idle mine sits at 800MHz, that's even with CnQ disabled in BIOS.

Didn't read all the replies, but it's not worth it right now. With those prices you're paying R&D costs for AMD for practically no gains apart from those you won't see anyway. Keep your 955 and grab an X6 when the prices have come down a bit and there's a game or two out that actually make use of 6 cores.

Yes I've tried with wPrime 32m1 and set it to load the different cores, but still that varies a lot. Like today i ran the whole 32m1 suite with 1 to 6 cores running, and via Core Temp i could see that some cores boosted to 3.6Ghz quite evenly.
Then I restarted the PC and waited a bit before running wPrime again and now the scores were "slower" aka higher, and via Core Temp I could see Turbo Core wasn't really running since alle core had some kind of load going on an just went at 3.2Ghz.
1 core 43,46 sec vs 44,5
2 cores 21,98 sec vs 22.6
etc

As for Call Of Juarez when Turbo Core seemingly would run i got 117 FPS, after the reboot and I waited for the PC to idle I ran it again and only got 112FPS.

If it wasn't for the 1090T making my hair go grey, I prefer the GTX 470 SLi because there's near 0 microstutter and also the FPS fluctuation is minimal - the minimum FPS and average FPS aren't far apart. The TriFire setup is overall faster though, not doubt about that, but the SLi setup just feels a bit more smooth in gameplay.

Well I'm using the lastest official bios for X6 support - and it's the 2nd bios released for that CPU type. There is a newer Beta bios out also, but i hear many talking bad out that one.

i wouldnt bother for what you do its a pointless upgrade unless you can sell your current cpu and not spend much on the actual upgrade anyway , but in terms of performance improments i doubt you would see any

I built a new system recently and was adament I wanted 6 core but after much reading and because I knew my PC would mostly be used for gaming I decided on a 965BE and saved myself over £100

I used to have a 965 and now a 1090T. Actually I built my rig for FSX, and there's no difference in frame rate between the 965 and the 1090T whatsoever.

FSX uses all 6 cores (you can set the affinityMask to 63 and it will), but it doesn't help with frames at all. Lord only knows what sort of coding did those guys in Aces.

Not worth it to upgrade
