Hi chaps,

Bit of advice needed. I currently have the following card:

MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozr III Boost Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **NEW REVISION**

I think I paid around £160 for it at the time. It's served me well but something caught my eye recently, they are selling for £230 on ebay...because they are good for mining cryptocurrencies. Now, I still have all the original packaging etc, so selling wouldn't be too bothersome.

Is it worth selling this and picking up a newer/better card with the profits? (assuming I can sell for £230). If so, which card?

Thanks

Upgrading from a 7950 with a budget of £230 won't be worth it, unless you get lucky and find something like a second hand 780 (whether they are around £230, I don't know for sure).

The 7950 is still a good card I don't think youd pick anything up better unless you went second hand.

It seems more that you want to try and make a profit from what you originally paid? Than actually upgrading the system.

You won't get £230 for it.

You can buy 280X's for that money and they're faster.

Check eBay completed listings, several sold for 230.

Nah, it's not that I'm trying to make a profit, it's just I'm aware that lots of new cards have come out since I bought, and wondered if I could sell and get more bang for my buck! Sounds like it's not really worth it though?

If you really want to upgrade :-

Buy a 2nd 7950 and go crossfire

Sell - doubt that £230+ is attainable (unless your lucky and get mug of the year bidding :)) but what you paid may well be attainable - and use the proceeds towards a 290/780.

Decided to go crossfire myself , did not fancy the hassle of selling etc

I sold mt 7950's on there and spent ages watching what they sold for.
