Worth upgrading player for Dolby Vision?

I currently have a Panasonic UB900 which I've had for about four years. Awesome player, built like a tank and I have no problems with it.

The only thing it lacks is DV support. I was wondering whether it's worth upgrading/swapping it for a newer UB820 which does have this support? What do people think?

I guess the main question is whether DV offers enough benefit over regular HDR10, for discs that have it, but also I've read that there are other HDR improvements on the UB820 which could offer better playback on standard HDR10 discs perhaps?

Is it worth the swap or should I just stick with my current player?

(yes the TV does support DV)

The bluray player market is so stagnant at the moment I dont think its worth swapping unless you can do it for minimal or zero outlay. I`m still using a Samsung K8500 4k player and even though I have an LG C9 I dont think I will swap it. I have been guilty of watching streaming stuff and I have a queue of 4k discs (and bluray) I need to watch. Saying that I watched 4k Solo last night which I've seen a few times first time watching it 4k on my TV. I mainly want to watch some discs just to see what they are like on the C9, watching the best possible quality I can.

Streaming is killing the player market.

I thought, some of the benefit is theoretical, in so much that, 4K nits is the maximum used on blu-rays, which is within hdr10 capabilities (and only a few 4ks like.. fury road ...)
also if you have a tv eg C9/Pan. that is doing 'dynamic' hdr, one of the benefits of dolby vision is nullified ( ie frame by frame min/max brightness )

UB900 has good quality drive too, and bullet proof build with pre-outs/dac, will out-live us all.

Several times I thought of replacing my 8500 with a UB900 too as they are meant to be the bees knees just the 2nd hand price putting me off as they retain their value.

Yeah it's an amazingly solid player and I'm actually loathe to get rid of it just to add DV.

I also have the UB900 and to be honest i can't see me swapping it out anytime soon. The only reason i would swap it out would be when Panasonic stop releasing firmware updates, because that would mean they have an even better BP waiting.

Dynamic Tone Mapping doesn't apply to Dolby Vision sources, as it's not required.

I think he meant that Dynamic Tone Mapping can give you many of the perceived benefits of DV or HDR10+ for sources or players that don't support it.
