Worth upgrading ssd?

Hi folks,

For the past couple of years I have been using a Crucial Real SSD c300 128gb, which has served me well and is still working well.

I had a look yesterday and noticed that current models (particularly looking at maybe the Samsung 840 pro series) completely blitz mine in terms of both read and write speed.

I'm wondering if it would be worth a potential upgrade at this point? Has anyone else had experience of this kind of jump from one SSD to another? I use it as my boot drive and for gaming (wow, far cry 3, etc)

Cheers

I've gone from a Vertex 2 (first SSD) to a Vertex 3 and now a Samsung 840. I can say there was a little difference between the Vertex 2/3 (as in, what you can notice) and the same again from my last upgrade, although I do some intensive I/O things like compiling so I did see pretty good improvements there.

But for general use you'll likely see marginal gains, but new things are shiny at that's all we care about at the end of the day!

Thanks for the response.

I do have a fondness for new shinies, I've just got to try and convince myself its worth the outlay to get it. Not convinced if I do enough hard disk intensive stuff to justify it. Do you mind if I ask what prompted you to have gone through 3 ssd's?

Probably only really worth it for size, that's my next move sometime, move my 2x 60gb drives to a spare pc and a laptop and go from 120gb what I have currently to at least 256gb single, or more depending how long I wait it out.

Must be a lot of us out there in the same boat - I have two 60Gb SSDs and thinking of retiring them for a Samsung 256Gb and using the existing ones (Crucial C300 like the OP and an older Kingston Vnow drive).
