Atm im running a 770 4gb card with a 2500k setup and wondering is it worth going for a 980ti with the setup I have . It would be used for gaming at 1440 on single monitor as im not upgrading anything else for a year a or two so maybe just get a 980 for now what do you think guys

I think if you don't need/want to be bleeding edge, second hand 980ti's will probably be a bargain in a few months if you can hold off.

I think if buying new, it'd be best to wait now just a bit longer to get a better idea of how the early pascal cards will fair - if the mid range pascal provide 980ti type performance for significantly less cash then it would be a shame to have just purchased the 980ti at full price... at the very least the 980ti will have to have had a price drop.

no way will they stick a mid range pascal in at 980ti performance, even if they did it will be at least a year as they like to milk the cards as long as possible.

Go for it i did last week and haven't looked back, performance is mind blowing, i wanted it now without waiting months on end for pascal to rear it's head. if you wait now you'll be forever playing the waiting game every year then your losing out on quality game time and enjoyment, and because your always waiting for new cards your always playing the games from 2 years ago you couldn't play with decent frames.

Probably me being overly harsh on what i count as mid range lol... I was thinking 1070 - 1080 as mid range (with the titan and ti equivalents as top end).

Either way I think in a month or two we'll have a much better idea of what to expect, unless it's really a much needed upgrade I would personally hold off at least until then - your mileage may vary.

I jumped in with dual 980Ti at christmas time so I'm sitting tight for a while anyway....

it would be second hand card prob from MM that I would get but been reading that as my system bit old it could hold back a 980 ti or is this just a few peoples opinions ? Also as most know havings an upgrade bug waiting few months is near on impossible :)

if u game at 1080p get a 970 g1 or wait for pascal version of 970...

1440+ get 980ti or pascal version.. up to if u wanna play games at top settings or not!

i would go for a Ti especiallly second hand. pascal is 2-3 months away. A Ti will last you a good while and is certainly a big improvement over a 770.

A 2500k should be fine. Especially if you OC it aswell.

970 is the most stupid option ever.. get an R9 390 for 1080...

i max out all the games i play at 1440 on a 780ti.
If you buying a GPU now for 1440 depend on budget get an r9 390x or a Nano, if you must go team green for a 980 none ti.
1440 is not all that much harder to run that 1080.

 what only another 1.6 million pixels to generate and dependant on the game it can mean a lot. like you said you max out all the games "you" play at 1440p i can still bring my 980ti to stutters and low frames with some of the mods i use, especially if using 4 to 8XMSAA and thats at 1080p. You obviously don't play batman arkham origins or the such because your 780ti would run out of vram before you ever reach max settings at 1440p

it's a subjective subject and really need to know more about what games he plays before you can say a 980 is sufficient for 1440p

If you 980ti is stuttering at 1080 I would RMA it pal
not had batman installed for some time but I will download it again latter.

When I say 1440 is not much more I mean I relation to ppl thinking it's hard to drive like 4k but 1440 is not that hard at all. Fallout 4 runs maxed no my boys system at 1440.. i3 6100 and 290x

1080 2,073,600 pixels
1440 3,686,400 pixels
4k 8,294,400 pixels

1440 is not much of a step up fro. 1080.

980Ti is the only performance competitive product in NVIDIA's entire portfolio at the moment - the rest of the lineup is getting an absolute hiding from AMD's similar or lower priced products.

However, the 980Ti's price will take a huge nosedive within 2 months.

Either wait or get an AMD card (390 / 390X / Nano are all fantastic value).

LOL it might not look much in numbers but thats stilla whopping 73% (ISH)more computing to do than at 1080P

why would i want to RMA a card that clocks to 1505 on stock volts?28. Score 17569, GPU 980 Ti @1505/1901, GFX Score 20732, Physics Score 16456, Combined Score 8602, CPU 5820k @4.4, bigjimmyauk, Post No.886 - Link Drivers 364.72 Have you even played anything more recent than pong? try the new hitman game with all settings at max and 1440p and see how you fair. only thing i can think is if your a 30FPS kind of guy

If you do not have a Gsync monitor, get an AMD R9 390/390X. Much faster at DX11 than anything Nvidia can offer at that price range for 1440.

As for DX12 a different league compared to the 980Ti/TX.
(I will not put more salt to the wounds.....) :D

In the hundreds of games that have Full dx12 implementation lol, come on that's tit for tat and only because of asynchronous compute! I'll also be surprised if many games make DX12 this year. And we all know what happens when you start overclocking the 980ti bye bye fury x. Its all a very subjective subject lol

It comes down to cost as well. There isn't much a 980TI can do at 1440p that a nano can't also do and for a much lower cost. And that was before even on older games where the 980 had a bigger lead. DX12 is just leveling the playing field a little. Nvidia cards are just more efficient to start with and don't need asynchronous compute so much to tap into the performance. Again both cards still performing well regardless of which one is faster.

I wouldn't upgrade to the 980 Ti just yet, new cards will be announced in the not so distant future so hold on to your 770 for now and grab a 980Ti on sale or 2nd hand.
