I currently have an Intel C2D E6600, would I see much of a boost in performance if I installed a Q6600 instead? I see they are only £170 odd quid at the moment.

depends what your gonna do tbh. a lot of future games will use quad, but if you just have some current programs and that all you ever be using then list them.

I use my machine purely for games, my m/board supports them and they are quite cheap at the moment. I just dont know if it will give me £170 worth of performance gain. If I`m only going to gain a few fps then obviously its not worth it.

well the source engine is being coded for fine threading for oct. so if you play any sourced based game you'll get an unbelievable increase in fps that wont really benefit duo core due (maybe 20% increase)

games are heading down the more cores = better route so jump in now :)

If gaming is your bag and you already own an E6600 then your bonkers to even consider a Quad. If you are running some applications that can take advantage of the extra cores then of course its well worth it.

What GPU and monitor are you using? Also what soundcard and speaker system do you have?
