Worth upgrading?

hi all
just wondering if its worth upgrading from a 3930k with a gigabyte x79 ud7 motherboard and 16gb of ddr3 1600 ram which has lasted me well for 6+ years. gpu isnt a issue as i have a 1080ti. Thinking of upgrading to a 8086 and a good motherboard and ram. What sort of improvements will i see and is it worth it?

Nah not worth. There'd be an improvement, but it's not gonna change your life, and it's very expensive.

Honestly I would say its not worth it. In most tasks unless you're sitting with a stop watch you won't see a difference, and even then its going to be pretty slight.
The 8086 is really just a 8700k in a special box anyway.

For me I would hold off and see if an 8 core mainstream intel chip turns up in the next few months, that would at least give you more cores

I would leave it for now, unless you have that sort of money to spend and it nor affect you

I have done that upgrade, just for the hell of it and no its not worth it,, but I wont have to change/upgrade the cpu or board for 5 - 10 yrs, thats the plan anyway.

Now I need to upgrade my AMD R9 290 as thats a huge bottleneck and thats what Id normally do... But why??,, I'll upgrade that when games start to chug

Remember though, more cores, more heat, so slower clockspeeds

If the current rumours are to be believed, the 9000 series are going to have soldered ihs's. So hopefully less heat and higher clock speeds. But either way, its definitly worth waiting in this case. Rather than what is more or less a side grade

Could you not overclock to get some extra juice?

6core to a 6core with higher frequency ? ... nah... unless you want 144hz monitor etc hen it may make sense

Its overclocked to 4.4ghz at 1.405 volts, not stable if I up to 4.5.

since you have a 1080ti i would assume you don't play games in 1080p?

you wont see a big difference with another cpu. Unless you just want to spend money for new toys :>

I run most games at 4k usually without AA and get 60fps

So at that res I'm guessing the GPU is the bottleneck.
