Worthwhile upgrading monitor

I have a 24" TN panel screen, 60hz, 1920x1200

With new GPU's with faster refresh rate support matching monitors (freesync/g-sync) and with different backlight (less power less heat) and different panel type (ie IPS) would it be worthwhile changing my monitor as well?

I don't think I'd want higher resolution as that means greater demand on the GPU (but I guess with higher res it means you don't need AA)

Just my 2p, but I find 6-bit TN screens useless due to the poor colour reproduction (and me doing graphics work). I personally would take anything in preference, even if it was a side-grade to a 24" 60Hz IPS or VA.

What is your GPU, and how much would you be looking to spend? :)

I have a old ATI 6950 which I'll be upgrading, to either 480 8GB or 1060GB.

As for colour reproduction it is for gaming, at the time IPS were better looking for video but TN had less ghosting and faster.

If I want to watch video I'll watch it on the 50" Pioneer plasma

That's fair, but... I personally wouldn't want to game in 24 bit colour when 32 bit exists :)

I'd recommend researching TN vs other panel types. You might be surprised at how ugly they are - or it may not bother you a jot as long as you get the headshots, it's totally personal ^^

I'm in the same position and am struggling to decide whether to go for a 144hz TN freesync or a 60hz IPS. Its mainly for gaming so the TN should probably be the way to go, but I don't really play that much FPS these days so maybe the superior colours on the IPS would be nicer, and I'm happy enough with 60hz at the moment, though obviously I've not experienced better.

Sorry, doesn't help with your question, but interested to see other replies and to hear what you go for.

yup I do like IPS, from the tablet/phones I have which are IPS I do like the colours. But I did have a very fast gaming monitor a while ago, sub 5ms and that really was amazing. Closest to CRT I've had so far.
