Would 2X2GB DDR2, make that much difference from 4x1GB DDR2?

I think a lot of the confusion with 4 x 1GB not overclocking is down to the AMD chips not liking 4 slots filled. Correct me if I'm wrong but 4 x 1GB with an intel cpu is far from problematic.
True, 4 sticks won't overclock as much as if there was just 2 but the difference is small and 4 x 1GB sticks will perform better than 2 x 2GB kits in an intel system.
 
I had 4x1gb PC2-8500 and I went to 2x2gb PC2-6400 (now 4x2gb!). You will only notice a difference in benchmarks, plus less strain on your chipset. 2x2gb will probably hold a better resale value too.
 
I currently have 4x1gig OCZ and while they overclock pretty well, I can get much more out of them if used in 2x1gig. Your cpu overclock will also be held back a little with 4 slots occupied. I've not had the chance to try 2x2gig yet but I'll wager its better than 4x1gig.
 
Gah this thread is 3 months old now.

The OCZ 2x2gb PC6400 kit is meant to clock reasonably well now. I think it was Misterdave that said he's got his well over 900mhz.

Hmm so are people still saying 4x1Gb is better for overclocking? I'd hate for it to hold the CPU overclock back. Perhaps it's better to just buy a faster 2x2Gb Kit and then that way you'd still be able to overclock the CPU fine and the memory?

So say you were going for a 4x1Gb PC2-6400 kit, why not get 2x2Gb PC2-8500? Everybody wins. :D
