So I need to use a mic with my laptop which seems to only have one audio port which I can plug in my mic and it will work fine, but obviously I will am using the laptop speakers to hear results.

So if I got my hands on a splitter or adapter would I be able to use my mic and a headset at the same time? I know you can split audio, but normally Mic have their only separate input and I’ve never tried to use both.

Laptop most likely has a 4 pole audio socket. If it does, then it will work if you have the correct type of splitter, linked below.

It wouldn't work however, if the audio socket is microphone only. I can't see that being the case though, as it would be odd for a laptop to have a microphone input, but no headphone output.

@wesimmo That will do the job, but it might be an idea to remove the link, as OcUK do sell a splitter for separating headphone and microphone.

Thanks for replies.

The jack is a headphone jack as it’s a laptop and it does have the options for mic in, headphones, headset and maybe a 4th option and I have never tried to use a mic separate to a headset at the same time because normally it’s on a computer with all the correct ports, so with that I wouldn’t want to waste money on the wrong thing.

So I will check out the solutions suggested, I’ve not clicked, so I don’t know prices, but I am just looking for the cheapest simplest option to allow me to use a headset when I require as I use my laptop for collage, but only the mic work at home as it has all my collage work on it rather than pc.

@ExoMale you might just be better sourcing a USB headset that has both headphones and microphone built in at once if you are open to spending more than a splitters worth on it? Would certainly be far easier than using adapters.
