Would a new LCD display be better than a 3 year old one?

Hi. I currently use a 19" Neovo F-419. This was bought in 2005 and back then it was a budget model. It has served me well but I've noticed that since getting my Aspire One netbook I prefer using that for longer periods, even though it is smaller. I've had a few problems with my eyes recently and extended monitor use causes me some discomfort.

I was thinking will modern LCD's have better technology compared to my 3 year old Neovo?

Thanks.

Hi. Thanks for all your replies. If thats the case then I may well buy a new monitor this week.

I like to game from time to time and have a E2140@3GHZ, 2GIG ballistix and a 8800gt. I was thinking I might stick to a normal 19" non wide screen version to save money. 22" widescreen would be nice but I'm thinking more modern games might stretch my setup too much at 1680 x 1050.

So any recommendations for a nice non widescreen 19" TFT would be most welcome.

Well I've just bought the Samsung aqua 22" SM-2253BW :) Decent 19" screens seemed to be about £110 so I thought I would put the extra to it and get something a bit more grander that would see me through the next couples of years.

Really looking forward to getting it I've heard its a great screen. Hope I'm not disappointed.

No probs bud I'll let you know.

I got it for £158 including next day delivery from another site. It would have been £152 including 2-3 day delivery instead, but I'm back at work next week and didn't want to take the chance of it showing up on Monday when I'm not in.

I've just realised that I've not bought the Aqua but the BW version, the Aqua should have LW at the end of the model number. I've heard the BW is an older version. I think OCUK may be mistaken in advertising the Aqua as SM-2253BW when it should be a SM-2253LW.

I've read over at hardforum that some of the SM-2253BW have bad back light bleed and a weird blue hue to the colour of the monitor.

Anyone have a SM-2253BW and can comment on it?

Was it misadvertised?

If so then get in touch with the company and organise a replacement or refund as it's not the Aqua version.

No it wasn't mis-advertised. I just presumed that the BW was the Aqua version because of looking on OCUK, but the LW is the Aqua version.

Oh well I'll just have to see how it is. Haven't really got time to send it all back again.

Ahhh - righto!

Sorry to hear that fella! Goodness knows i've done the same type of thing myself before. :(

TBH - you might still like the screen regardless.

My old 226BW was meant to have poor backlight bleed plus i got one with an inferior panel. It was still streets ahead of the two other fairly decent lcd's i had to hand at the time. One was a 2yr old proview and the other a 1yr old belinea.

Best of luck with it! :D

Hi GT.

Yeah well its got a load of good reviews on another etailer, well a few etailers, so I'm hoping it'll be tip top. Its just strange that OCUK are advertising the Aqua as BW when it should be LW. Be interesting to hear from any people who have bought the Aqua from OCUK what model number it actually is.

Thanks.

Well I've opened it and its really nice, obviously :p. I can notice a bit of bleeding round the edges when the XP loading screen comes up but I can live with that.

I did the:

- Set contrast and brightness to 0
- Press the « Menu » button
- Press the « Source » button for 5 seconds

to find out what panel I've got and it looks like I've got a Samsung panel as Samsung panels are supposed to have the number xxxCAA-1002, which is what mine has :) Can't see any dead pixels too - so far!

Gonna test out a few games now.
