Hi

currently with Orange broadband, and we have the router that they gave us downstairs at the master socket. Our 2 desktops and 1 laptop all connect wirelessly.

We moved the router upstairs to another socket, plugged it in etc and connect the 2 desktops with an ethernet cable. Both the PC's connected to the router (it said connected 100mbps in the bottom right hand corner of the screen :p ) but when we opened up the internet we just got an error. Went to 192.168.1.1 and that also said we weren't connected.

Moved the router back downstairs and it all worked fine.

Any ideas what we could do to allow us to have the router upstairs? Or would getting a new router solve our problem?

Many thanks :)

I'm guessing your master socket has an ADSL port and a telephone port, yet upstairs your extension socket does not give you the choice? Its just a phone port?

If my guess is correct, then your extension socket is not filtered and your phone line is interfering with your Broadband signal. ;) Buy a plug in filter and your sorted!

you need the line upstairs to be unfiltered until it gets to the pc

how does the line get upstairs? is it an extention from downstairs?

you may need...

a doubler downstairs, one line going upstairs to a filter, the other line going downstairs to a filter

basically the filter splits the ADSL from the phone line.
