Would a single GTX 780 roughly equal two GTX 580 in SLI ?

Still should be able to get a decent washing machine for £300 :p

At the end of the day as long as its reliable and washes your clothes, what more do you need?

Ok back to GTX 780 vs SLI GTX 580

Take a look at this bench with a 580 Vs 780.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/767?vs=827

As you can see, in some instances, it is over double and others, not so much at all. When you take some games for SLI scaling such as FarCry 3, it scales very poor on 2 cards. I get roughly 15fps more over single card with SLI Titans. Other factors are noise/heat/leccy however, only you can decide if it is worth it :)

It was me and I said a 680 was faster than SLI 480's with a small overclock. It was you who disagreed with me iirc ;)

No, I disagreed with someone's statement (maybe yours, can't remember) that a gtx 780 would be "much faster" than sli gtx 480's

if one spends 550f on gpu i think he does not give a **** about power bill especially when he has 2x580atm 200w this way or another....
You want save money on energy ?? drink mineral/tap water instead of tea cause kettle is like 2kW :D
HAHAHAHAH

I can't say about higher resolutions but at 1080 my two stock-clocked 3GB 580's in SLI were about 5% faster than my 780 at stock speed. I tested: Crysis 3, Max Payne 3, Lost Planet 2, Metro 2033 (benchmark) and Heaven 4.0 (benchmark).

My 580's didn't overclock well (too much heat / noise for little gain) so I ran them at stock. The 780 does overclock reasonably. At a moderate 24/7 overclock of ~1100MHz core, 6.6GHz memory, the 780 is some 10% faster in the above games at 1080 resolution.

There are other benefits for me: less input lag (halved frame rendering times with a single card), less stutter at full load, less power / heat / noise.

Hope this helps,

Martin

Get a 780 for sure, then in future when you can afford buy another if you require it. you can still fetch good money for your 580s anyway on fleabay, 150-200 each.
