I swapped my 7800GT fora pair of 6800GS cards? I fancy having a go at SLI but dont want to have to buy another 7800GT

Yes you would be nuts.

In the games that SLI don't work very well in...Will leave you with the much slower speed of a single 6800 card.

Review sites this love to show off the games that SLI works very good in..Don't belive you get an extra 50% or more FPS in all games..

A straight swap go for it, otherwise the extra power needed, more heat, more noise, less space for expansion and annoyance of setting up games to run on SLi isnt really worth it :p

dont do it, prices will fall for the 7800gt's as soon as the 7900's hit the shelves.
so you might find a cheap one somewhere in the future if you really wanna have a
go at sli.

I hear so many people saying SLi Pwns.

But am i correct in saying SLi is only benificial for people who run games at VERY High Resolutions on massive dell screens ?

IT goes by what speed cpu your running and how cpu limited the game is at lower res

sli doesnt work also in some games from what ive read ?? x-fire will be much better on the new rd580 boards..

If SLI does work then it is likely that X-fire wont work.

SLI has better support and compatiility than X-fire being that it is a lot more mature.

It's my firm belief that running below 1920x1200 does not warrant top end SLI - sure you get improvements at lower resolutions, but the outlay, added heat, noise, config probs etc just isn't worth it, IMO.

but ati use hardware to split the performance and nvidia use software if im correct. so that would make a difference. im sure i read it somewhere, if i find it i'll post a link.

no not at all, ATI's 'sli' approach is currently much worse than nvidia, if your thinking 'hardware' theres no such thing, the nvidia have sli logic in the gpu's and software runs it, ati has a 3rd party chip 'bolted' on to a non sli/crossfire ati gpu to make it work, and then software runs it (obviously), this is still the case, is apparently gonna change next gpu from ati, as it stands nvidia is ahead on the multi gpu war

Scrap that, it's just not happening for me today in graphics - my X800XT looks to be dying and I'm running an 8MB PCI ATi Rage Pro in the meantime.

Gibbo has already said that the 7800's will not drop in price, and if you do want another one then best to get one now as they aint made anymore, once the stocks gone that retailers have, thats it. :)

ok so they will never come down in price ?? mmm, of course they will, every single card does... i suppose people with 6800gt's and ultras are stuck as they arn't made anymore?

They stopped making the 7800gt/gtx as well.
Retailers are selling off the last of there stock..Getting ready for the new 7900 range.

people are selling there 7800gtx 512's because they know they paid a premium for them and will be worth no where near once the 7900gtx's start flooding in. so nvidia cards will come down. like the x1900's and the x1800's..

They won't, im sure Gibbo will confirm again when he sees this thread, you have to buy one in about the next 3 months or thats it, all gone, and prices are not dropping. :)
