Would i be nuts if...

LoadsaMoney, hannibal2381, your both right but you dont know it hehe :)

hannibal2381 seems to be referring to the "value" of the card that people will sell them on for second hand as opposed to LoadsaMoney who is right when he says the retail price will not be comming down as Nvidia dont seem to be keen on the idea of running too many product lines.

the "value" of the product when being sold on of course will fall as people will always sell their cards with price to performance in mind. anyone who trys to base their 7800 range cards second hand value on what they are going for in retail is never going to sell the thing.

If SLI does work then it is likely that X-fire wont work.

SLI has better support and compatiility than X-fire being that it is a lot more mature.

Well in some games two cards in SLI is slower than when using the same card on its own (due to increased overhead & unoptimized drivers / game profiles). One example, a game i play is Serious Sam 2. With crossfire this is not the case, so even now crossfire offers more performance than SLI, though this will vary. When you consider ATI's cheaper card prices as well, once the mobos arebetter tuned (new bios/ RD580), then you will be better of going crossfire than SLI.

Cross-fire is less eficient than SLI- end-of! If you comparing the % performance gain then SLI is a lot better option than x-fire is, unless you are a fanATIc.

But X-fire is very young and is still a hacked on solution. The first real X-fire cards wont appear until R600 at the earliest. These current cards are just hacks with some extra logic bolted onto the PCB. Nvidia cards have been designed from the ground up to work in SLI.

A bif problem with X-fire at the moment is the driver doesn't allow you to adjust the profile by hand so you have to rely on ATI providing their profile. With SLI if a new game isn't working well with SLI you can adjust the progile to make it work.

And I have no idea where you got that information on serious sam 2. SLI makes a big speed improvement.

Of course, the SLI pair of two Extreme N7800GT is the absolute winner here
A 31% speed icnrease with the eye candy settings is not a slow down.

Additional support for NVIDIA SLI technology enables gamers to experience Serious Sam II at significantly faster frame rates, at the highest of resolutions.

Next time use google to make sure your facts are right before posting fud. Not trying to be aggressive ehre, you've just posted completely incorrect information

SLI GTX 52% faster than a single GTX

http://www.hardinfo.com/show.asp?page=6251
SLI GTX and GT 52% faster at the high resolutions
SLI GTX 88% faster with HDR at the highest resolution.

Toms Hardware is the least reliable review site on the web, considering their results contardict every other benchmark I could find it is pretty indicitive of an erro by THG. tSLI has a massive performance boost in SS2, with HDr rendering this just gets even bigger. You can hardly complain at 52-88% faster at 1600x1200!

Plus the sli 7800gtx 512mb cards are very cpu limited in these tests.

people are selling there 7800gtx 512's because they know they paid a premium for them and will be worth no where near once the 7900gtx's start flooding in. so nvidia cards will come down. like the x1900's and the x1800's..

then another 6months or so down the line the x1900 and 7900s will be outdone by another new card. i went for the X1800xt 256mb. it should hopefully last as long as my 9800pro. If it does then i will be happy
