I am currently running my HTPC using MCE 2005 for the last 2 years.
But...being a slight PC fashion guru, I would like to installed Vista Premium Home, after recently purchasing a laptop with it installed. The gui etc is nice, and wondering if below the surface offers a sweeter experience all round.
My HTPC.
P4 3.4
Nvidia AGP 6800 512MB GS
Hauppauge 250 PCI S-video to a media box to connect to Sky via a scart RGB converter.
£30 sound card with optical out to my 5.1 surround sound system
1GB DDR1 Ram
80GB Sata
120MB IDE
DVD R/W
CD R/W
Silverstone desktop case.
This is connected upto my LG 32" LCD 32R or something(?), the one which is always mentioned (had it a year now) via a DVI connection.
I also use TheaterTec V2.0 along with FFDShow which upscales my DVD's very well and outputs 5.1 sound either dolby digital or DTS depending on the movie.
Right Q's!
What are the compatibility issues I may have with my setup? I know after trying to install my Mcafee on my Vista Laptop, it is not compatible so I am now using NOD32 for my Virus scanner, and using the Vista monitor to do the rest.
Can I still install TheaterTec V2.0 as well as use FFDShow and AC3 filters for DIVX movies with Vista?
Are drivers available for my setup i.e. the TV card?
What advantages does the new Media Center hold over MCE 2005?
Is the only real advantage in my case just the GUI, or will I enjoy a better viewing experience (HD springs to mind, is this something my GFX card is capable of?) As I know my PC is getting quite old spec wise, I cannot really warrant upgrading it, as its solely used for Media Center/playing DVD's
Setup
Thank you for reading, comments welcome
