Would i notice a difference between VGA-VGA and DVI-HDMI

Well both DVI and HDMI will produce digital signals, where VGA is analog, so you should notice a difference, especially at that resolution.
 
Woot, well that gives me reason to do something tonight instead of slob in front of the screen on the bed with ice cream and th 360 :D (im not fat, but getting there at this rate lol)

Definitely. I HATE VGA! when I see computers with display issues, flickering etc I just know they're on VGA.

Am I right in thinking that I can use very long extension cables with digital monitor cables, but only short ones with analogue? I had a 10 foot vga cable a while back which never seemed to work well.

If so, does that mean a very long male to female dvi cable, with the standard dvi to vga adapter and a subsequent vga cable would work? I'd like to use my vga only monitor far from my computer, and the graphics card has dvi outputs. Cheers :)

Yes, a long digital cable then short analogue would be better than a long analogue all the way. Due to the conversion, it still won't be as good as pure digital, but it's the best option in your situation.
