Heya guys, I've currently got a WD 500GB SataIII green power hard drive, boot times are rather slow and I've been hearing nothing but good things about the Samsung F3's

Would I really notice that much of a difference between the two hard drives?

SSD would be the choice to go for as a boot device and use your WD as a secondary drive.

Regarding your question, I would think it would make a little difference but not sure how much.

Yeah I've been contemplating a SSD for a while now, my computer is used for nothing but games.

All of my movies and games are on an external hard drive anyway so the WD would be purely for apps, SSD purely for windows.

I've noticed post is slower when my external is connected, any way around this? If I'm using my home pc it is always connected

Turn it on after boot, I find the same and it is purely the system searching for drives be they usb or esata.
It is just the post doing its job.
Recently added an ssd, very happy with my choice of cheap intel 320, 80gb for 100 pounds.

It's a 1tb externally powered external hard drive :P

Always powered on and always connected, is there no way to stop post from pausing whilst it looks?

Not sure about that, but I think you'd notice little difference in boot times with an HDD, though the F3s are very good. An SSD though would make a huge difference, if you can afford one and its only for Windows any way then go for it!
