Would I save much running a derv?

Unless you're doing HUGE mileage I cannot understand your absolute fascination with amazing MPG. Judging by your figures you're not even doing 15k a year?!

The lowest I have spent on petrol in a month is £120 @ 92.9p per litre.

The highest is £165 @ 95.9p per litre.

The average is around £135-£140 per month.

Those figures are at 40mpg.
 
I keep getting told just buy what you want, you only live once.

If it starts to become a huge drain on my salary, as soon as the novelty wears off i'd be looking at selling it:eek:
 
So if you had a car that only did 20mpg you'd spend double what you do now, a staggering £270 a month on fuel.

I repeat my earlier statement, why the fascination with amazing MPG?!

If you want to better the economy of your current car, with performance on tap if you want it, then you have to be looking at cars in the "Focus" catagory or smaller.
Talking about 0-100 times will just get you shot down in flames here TBH.
 
So you want, fast, cheap, good mpg, anything else, oral pleasure while driving it?

You can pick 1 of the above pretty much, if you exclude the pleasure!

And you say in your OP you would buy a 306 HDI, then change your mind later and say that you wouldnt....

Make your mind up for yourself already, obviously dont like what your hearing here as we cant work miracles.
 
I'm currently in the process of changing my car for a 1-series.

Test drove both a 123d and 130i and am going for the 130 - even though a 123d would probably nearly halve my fuel bill (~£250 a month give or take with the 530i) it wasn't very pleasant to drive to be honest. If you enjoy driving the sacrifice isn't worth it unless you're talking huge amounts of money IMO.
 
Lets put things straight - currently there is no issue with the running costs of my current car.

I am happy paying the £100+ a month on fuel.

I'm after something with A/C that is as quick or is quicker than a Saxo VTS for £5,000.



As for the 306, I was looking at one with an FMIC?
 
Just buy my Cup - drive at 55mph on a run and you will see 49mpg. Faster than the VTS, newer than the VTS and only 4k ;) Only done 47k! All belts done etc haha

Sounds ideal, although he has said that even though this more then fits his brief, he knows people that have spent money repairing niggly faults (who'd have thought that on a french car? :D))

I know 2 people that both spent aroung £5K on an E46 330i/Ci in reasonably condition, and have beem getting 38MPG commuting to work.. and considering they are 230BHP and very capable.. although 2001 cars, they have FSH and are in excellent condition with under 100K miles..

Just a thought..

Can now get one for budget, certainly fast enough for your needs as well as the features you desire, and if you drive carefully can return 40+ MPG on the motorway, and 30-35 on a combined cycle. Driving it in town will cost though.

OT; but does a remap normally give you better MPG or worse on the LCR?
