Would I see an improvement in image quality....

Without a doubt.....Generally anything, whether it's washing machines, hoovers, or in this case TFT's - 7yrs is a hell of a long time - Get yourself another one - sharpish!!

EDIT - The Belinea 102030W 20.1" would be a particularly good choice and last you another 7yrs. Be careful if you go bigger than that though as there is lots to consider

Not garenteed. An Iiyama is a quality screen. So you may notice some differences. You will defintely find your CRT is better than cheap TFTs.

The main thing you will loose is the flexible choice of resolutions. Your CRT looks good at all resolutions, whereas a TFT looks best at it's native res - everything else is an estimate. So if you swap resolutions a lot... go and try out a TFT first.

As you spent so much money on your monitor 7 years ago, you will also want to pitch high again this time. You will not want to give up any of the quality you are used to.

Read the stickies... good info in there. I am very impressed by my new Dell 24"WS (see sig). Quality is amazing - and yes, this one is better than Iiyama (I have been able to do some comparrisons in the past month).

Go spend ya cash..... you'll be happy. :D

Thanks for the info MAllen, I think I will keep my CRT for now. My friend was raving to me about widescreen gaming, do you think it's worth the extra money?

I've gone from a quality Viewsonic 19" CRT (Diamondtron aperture grille - same tube as your Iiyama) to a Dell 20" widescreen TFT, and I'm satisfied with the switch overall. There are some areas in which TFTs can't match CRT - like black depth (the biggie IMO), contrast, repsonse time, non-native resolutions, available refresh rates etc, but overall I'm happy with the results.

Widescreen gaming is very nice too. Plus TFTs do have their advantages, like desk space, power usage, brightness, being flicker free, looking nice (the designs), being better for your eyes, sharpness in native res etc. I wouldn't have the CRT back.

Having said all that I'm still eagerly awaiting SED so I can ditch LCD for good and get contrast, black depth, CRT like responsiveness and high refresh rates.

I have been using the 22" Asus widescreen monitor since xmas and have just sent it back due to ghosting issue in games.

Im back using my 19" Mitsubishi diamond pro (Diamondtron aperture grille - same tube as your Iiyama) and Im hating it. I used to love my CRT which I had for 9 years but now the picture looks dull, my eyes hurt and im missing the extra width.

I cant wait to get me another widescreen 22", even though they are considered poor quality to most LCD's it seemed great compared to my CRT.

I went from a IIyama Vision Master Pro 454 19" CRT to an NEC 20" WS LCD (considered to have amazing image quality for an LCD) and there's definitely a loss of image quality as far as I'm concerned. I've learnt to live with it and if you're not comparing them side by side you get used to it, plus the widescreen format is great. The extra desk space does make a big difference too. As mentioned above SED's looking the daddy.
