hello there,

many years ago for a bit of fun i did a djing course during a summer holiday.
I really enjoyed it and now i would to try out djing for a bit o' fun
The thing is, at the course, she only had garage, which although wasn't bad, not really my sort of music.
Im mainly in to punky/classic rock sort of stuff, but there is some dance music i really like, including paul van dyke's we are alive and a couple of Heaven is a place on earth remixs that ive heard.

I'd really like to dj with that sort of music, dance but with like an emotional side.

So i was wondernig if you guys could reccommend some simular sort of music to listen to? And if there are any good djing books around that tell you the basics?

cheers

get urself to a decent record shop like hard to find records in birmingham, and ask for some vocal trance, then get urself some cheap belt drives to learn on, and just practice mixing two records back and forth. once you get good at beatmixing thats it yer off, but i wouldnt shell out on technics just yet cos some people just cant match beats no matter how hard they try. ive been messing about on decks for 10 years and a good mate of mine got his decks at the same time as me and he still sruggles with matching basic hard house beats

I'd hardly consider HTFR a decent record shop :p

Have a look in the trance sections of these sites:

www.chemical-records.co.uk
www.juno.co.uk

:)

Juno's good for samples, though not too cheaply.

If you have a makro they do boxed belt drive kits, i got mine from there about 4 years ago maybe, learn on belt drives and you'll be awesome when you get a set of Technics...

MoS do a belt drive set too...

I am aware of online shops like juno, but i recommended htfr in brum cos i love going into a shop and getting hands on, also it is local to me (dont know where mr barbra resides) and the staff are very helpfull if youre a noob with sorting out genres and recommending tunes to suit requirements

You want to be listening to soulful house stuff if you want music with emotion.

Hardsoul, Copyright, Reel People and the likes.

Look out for Miquel Migs stuff as well. A bit deeper but fantastic chords etc.

looks like another time for some erol alkan podcast pimping before everyone on this forum turns to trance :p

i used to be into rock and punk stuff when i was a schoooolie and would never though id like stuff a dj would play, that was till i found 2manydjs and erol alkan mixes on the web

converted allot of my mates from having the attitude that "djs sucks" " djs are for chavy dance music" too loving electro/indie house stuff by telling them to listen to the podcasts on http://www.erolalkan.co.uk/

because he does production for indie/rock acts his dj sets have rock influences in them

erol keeps kids dancing !

if that fails just be a rock dj they have it easy lol
