I recently built my own system after previously spending about £1,400 on an Alienware Auora about 3yrs ago. First got it - very quick, but immediately after purchasing it, finding out each component, and pricing them up individually from the cheapest stockists I was shocked to find out that I could have spent only £~900!; a
saving of over £500! So building your own PC can bring the price down considerably!
However!!!, there could be a slim likelihood that some of your components don't go together well, various faults here and there, etc etc, which when you have built your own system is a lot harder and time consuming to fix/repair.
(I think I have a problem with the right selection of components for my system as well as issues when trying to OC. Although with my current build which has costed about £1,400 ex Screen, inc VAT/Delivery as compared to a similar system from Alienware for £2,700++, you don't get a "system builders" warranty, and its up to you to fix the problems.)
Therefore building your own system carries a certain
% risk which you need to take on board. I would say that anyone can build there own PC; it can be time consuming, but think of the
££ saving.
One final thing, this forum is
really valuable to anyone building their own PC, as I have found out. So go for it!
