Hi

Ive currently got a WD2500JD 250GB 7200RPM SATA/150 8MB Cache, which I am using as my main hdd partitioned with a windows partition and storage.

I have just received an IDE Barracuda 7200.7 ST380011A 80gb 2mb cache from work, and was wondering if I would see much speed loss if I were to make this my primary windows partition?

It wouldn't be as snappy as a 8MB cache but will work. You will probably notice a difference in speed when copying files across drives and the loading of things.

Be better to have the 2MB cache drive just for storage if possible and have the other with just windows on.

just in comparison etc, i have a 160gb hdd, sata i think its got 16mb catche,
which iv got windows and important stuff on,

and iv got another 160gb hdd sata, but its one of the first satas available only 4mb i think, and i use it to store my music etc on and torrents that i download, allso got junk programes installed on it which i rarely use.

You probably would be able to notice the difference as stated by copying files etc. I use my IDE HDD as an external now in an enclosure to back up my uni work, important docs etc :)

IDE is pretty much redundant now for HDD

I still use ide  all of my computers are ide hard drives, the only thing that'll make me upgrade is if they die, or i finally get a pc that i'm satisfied with thus justifying spending money on a hard drive (or getting amotherboard with no ide ports... :D )

Ok cool. Ill probably just partition my 250gb sata in to a 50gb for windows, 200gb for storage and have the extra 80gb drive for extra storage.
