Would there be much benefit going from locked DC to locked QC

I have a sandy pentium dual core @3.1GHz in my bedroom/lounge PC. Whilst it maxes games like Tomb Raidetr easy peasy, it really struggles with GTA IV, Project CARS and Witcher 2. These games run flawlessly on my 4770k @ 4.7GHz main PC.

Is this because of the increase in cores or the increase in GHz? i.e will i see a big improvement if I put a sandy or ivy locked quad into my lounge pc? It is a basic H61 motherboard so can't do overclocking.

Down clock your main Pc to the same 3.1Ghz and then you can see yourself if it is the extra cores that make the difference.

Most modern games are struggling with dual cores these days. your 4770k is over double the performance of your duo. Check your cpu utilization, should get you an idea of how much it's getting taxed

Even for games that can only use two cores, quads are better purely because all your background stuff can happen on the other cores leaving two free cores for the game.

Clocks and extra cores for those games are important. i would try the downclocking route to see the difference. Is the gpu also the same or the bedroom one is on a smaller gpu or integrated one?

A locked sandy or ivy quad may not overclock on your H61, but you''ll still have turbo boost :)
